Hi :) I have my 12 week scan this week and am very excited. I can't wait to start buying a few small bits but is it too soon?
When did you start buying things for your baby?

kitcaty I'm 36 weeks, having growth scans and still don't know what size I need clothes wise! So he's not quite right.

I bought a couple of sleepsuits in the January sales once I had my scan, but started to do a lot of research and created a big wishlist of what we wanted, so I could keep an eye out on local FB selling groups or secondhand offers. I could also politely decline things we didn't need but were offered.

Ultimately it's your baby though so it's up to you Smile I wasn't very well during my Pg so I'm glad I got most things sorted by 30 ish weeks as I'm now very immobile.

I'm 14 weeks with my first and I have hardly bought anything. I have a giraffe blanket I bought from a zoo a few weeks back bit I had a miscarriage scare after I bought that. I'm constantly worried something is going to go wrong so I'm leaving it until much later on. It makes me sad because I don't really feel excited like everyone else does. My mother in law is going crazy buying me prams and clothes and she's going mental at my partner because I won't go over and see them. I appreciate it but just thought they would show some respect for how I feel Sad have a feeling she is going to be an overbearing nightmare Envy

I was going to ask this exact question yesterday! I had a link to the preview mothercare sale and saw some sweet little things in the sale.
I'm 17 weeks and we had our gender scan last week - until then we held off and bought a blanket, some rattles and 2 neutral babygros.
Since then, both our mums have gone a little nuts knowing it's a boy, and we picked up a baby bath and some more cheap clothes in the sale.
All in all - whatever feels right. I don't want to buy anything 'big' until after 20 weeks - maybe even 24 but if there's a deal to be had, it would be rude not to!Smile

I'm 26 weeks and feeling v unprepared right now!! All I've got so far is:
A few baby grows
A pack of vests
Moses basket (no stand)
Pram (no car seat)
A couple of 3-6 month outfits
Cot (no bedding etc.)

My husband has the total attitude of "we have loads of time yet, don't worry" but im sure he would still be saying this once my waters break!

I hardly got anything until I started my maternity leave at 36 weeks! We got a bundle of second hand clothes from my sil and her old travel system a couple of weeks before then, but I've spent the past two weeks buying lots. I hadn't felt able to give it my full attention while working, and researching products and trying to find the best prices has kept me occupied now I'm off.

If the baby happened to arrive early then the shops are always open and my DH could have just bought what we needed, or Amazon prime delivers next day. I'd just try to find good second hand items before, as that's the only thing you can't find in a hurry.

Our first big purchase was the pram at 16 weeks as we got a good deal in the January sales. Spread out things after that. Glad we were organised as he arrived at 34 weeks and we had all the important things bought. Still haven't got into the 0-3 month clothes yet but it won't be long. This was the size I'd mostly bought in advance; turns out my mum did too so we've tons

I looked at stuff from around 9/10 weeks, I known I was pregnant from 3+ weeks and I'm very impatient so waiting that long was hard enough. I had a private scan at what I thought was 8 weeks which put me forward to 9 weeks.

After my 12 week scan I ordered my pram, car seat, nursery set, snuzpod. It was a fantastic deal from the one store, and they have a system whereby you can cancel the order any time up to your due date and get all the money you have paid up back. Buying this way saved us over £500 and got us a few freebies. We also used it like a gift list, so our parents etc could just help pay off our account if they wished to help.

I'm 19 weeks today and have my "20 week" scan in two weeks. All going well I will start paying more money off at the store

The past two weeks have been spent doing the nursery, we've had to strip it back to bare plaster so it's going (and has...) taken a lot of time.

I'm a very organised person so I can see the emotion logic of waiting until after 20 weeks to get things sorted but I get anxious when I have a "to do" list that isn't getting worked on.

Xxx

I started buying baby clothes before I was even pregnant! Then as soon as I found out at 4 weeks I made a list of everything I needed and how much I expected it to cost and have been ticking things off that list ever since. I'm not superstitious and I figured that even if, god forbid, my scan shows that this baby isn't viable then in time we will try again so the items won't go to waste.

Moreso than buying baby items I've been sorting my house out - the spare room which will be the nursery is full to the brim - it currently doubles as my office and and overflow of wardrobe space so I've had a huge clearout / listed loads of stuff on ebay / put non essential things away in the loft / bought storage solutions so I can shift things to other rooms. I figured that it's best to do this early on while I still have the energy and can still fit through the loft hatch!

I like to be organised so it was a no brainer for me to get stuff sorted as soon as possible. I'm a planner and had most of my wedding sorted 6 months before I got married because I hate last minute rushing and panicking.

I'm booked in for a private scan on Saturday by which point I will be almost 10 weeks and if that all goes well then it will be full steam ahead.

I had my scan today. Everything looks good. I struggle with the nub theory! Can anyone tell me what gender they think :)

I'm soooo nervous after a miscarriage last year- I only buy a small pack of pregnancy vits- 30 in the pack and don't buy another until I run out. I don't imagine I will start to buy baby stuff until late.

We are all different and deal with things very differently. For me, I just never feel safe. In the grand scheme of things if anything did happen it wouldn't make any difference if I had loads of vitamins left or if I'd bought some baby stuff- just can't bring myself to do it. I would also feel quite uncomfortable if people started buying baby stuff for me already -I'm 15 weeks

Anyone here got any advice on warranties? I'm starting to buy stuff now, but don't want to lose months on items that only have a 1 year guarantee. Do warranties always start from date of purchase? I thought I heard something about Mothercare(?) starting warranties on some bigger items from birth?
