Slowed growth

I'm 30+2 and just had a growth scan. The scan showed that baby's growth has slowed since last scan 4 weeks ago. This is my 2nd child, my DS was born 2 weeks over at 9lbs on the 70% percentile.
This baby is a girl and today measuring on the 15%. Not only that at this time in my son's pregnancy it was autumn (cooler) so felt like eating more and was drinking SO much milk. In this heat and with running round after a toddler I've not eaten as much (Don't get me wrong I eat well but with DS can just remember eating MORE). Plus have had a stomach bug for the last 6 days.
However her movements are very good and very regular.
Instinctively I don't feel anything is wrong but all the checks are putting worry and doubt in my mind, am I doing something wrong?
Doesn't help that people keep commenting on how small my bump is (I'm very tall) which now hurts!

Had this in 2 of my pregnancies, had 2 weekly scans from about 30 weeks and both led to early inductions - first at 34+5 and second at 36+6. Both babies were small at 5lb1 and 4lb15 but very quickly caught up. If they think there's a chance baby might come early you will be given steroid injections to strengthen their lungs prior to delivery. Remember scans are not always accurate though!

Thank you for your replies, again instinct tells me she may well be early but hoping it's at least after 35 weeks. Glad all turned ok for you both :-)
KitKatCHA did both your babies have to stay in hospital for a while after birth? How long? I've been so calm & relaxed all through this pregnancy and now get to this and start catastrophising (is that a word?!)

I had this. First baby 27 weeks for unexpected medical emergency, then monitored throughout second pregnancy with growth scans. Growth started slowing at 28 weeks, four weekly scans from 20 weeks onwards, then two weekly scans from 32 weeks. She tailed off to under tenth centile, so they made me stay in and had c section at bang on 37 weeks after steroids. She weighed 4lb 5oz. At least they're keeping an eye on you. Try not to worry, and just keep on top of noticing movements... any changes go straight in.x

Only the first (34+5) had to stay in due to being early. He was in neonatal for 1 week, a couple of days in an incubator and on cpap/under the lights for jaundice then the rest in a normal crib. He's nearly 7 now and now well above average height etc. My daughter had to stay a couple of days but due to blood sugar monitoring after gestational diabetes not being early even though she was the smallest.

I hope everything turns out well for you Flowers

I'm also in the same boat!! 33+2 and baby has dropped from 12th to 8th centile. Overall it's pretty odd because my first DD was large at birth! Can't get my head around it. I have weekly Doppler scans and growth scans booked in. Apparently if growth reduces by anymore I will be induced there and then. If growth stays on the same centile I will be induced at 37 weeks. If it improves then I think they said they would leave me to go into labour naturally. Hope it works out for you OP. Any advice from anyone would be appreciated. Xx

Think I've always wanted as natural a birth as possible so when faced with potentially needing to be induced it's thrown me (not to mention the worry as to why little one's growth has slowed. Like you Vickifaith by DS was large and still is a healthy chunk. My appetite has increased in the last week so hoping that makes a difference. Movements are very good though so fingers crossed - same for others in the same boat Flowers

I know how you feel Tea - I was induced with my first and I really wanted to avoid it this time around!! I've heard that early induction doesn't always work well for small baby's and often c section is needed so fingers crossed that's not the case for us! I have my monitoring day tomorrow so will ask my consultant all the questions and update you cx

TeaTeaTea · 06/07/2017 06:39

How did your appointment go Vicki? Did the doc manage to answer your questions? I have my next scan this morning, more intrigued than worried now - I feel she's grown...just whether it's at a rate the doc is happy with.

So she has grown 7oz in two weeks - they said it's good she's grown but she's still on the same 7/8th centile. I am 35 weeks tomorrow so she said they will do another growth scan at 36+4 to check she hasn't had a miracle growth spurt! Then book me in for induction for when I'm 37 weeks. Thy don't expect her to get above the 10th now but need to double check. One thing I am worrying about is that her head circumference is small...not off the charts but it looks like in my notes it's smaller than belly and femur. I brought it up with her and she wasn't concerned. She said baby is all small so isn't anything to worry about! But I still am lol. How are you getting on?? Xxx

vickifaith · 10/07/2017 17:20

Hope you are okay Tea!! Xx

TeaTeaTea · 10/07/2017 20:35

Ah yes, I'm ok!
Scan went well, on the 10th centile but has grown, they want to scan again in 2 weeks, check she hasn't dropped lower and then carry on as normal. Thing is, should she stay on the same percentile she'll still be around 7lbs - that was average 20 years ago so I'm really not worried anymore.
Good to hear your LO is growing Vicki - keep in mind that yes babies are bigger these days but they say it's due to better nutrition etc. - babies used to be born perfectly healthly at 6lbs, 7lbs.
Is your induction definate? x

That's amazing news Tea! Yes 7lb is more than healthy! I reckon they just worry when they see a big drop! When's your scan? My induction date isn't definite...I have another growth scan in just over a week - if she's on the same centile (8th) then I'll be induced the following week. If she's had a big growth spurt then I think they will leave me to go natural! Xx
