Back to back baby contractions

Hello
My baby is back to back and was just wondering if any others had their baby back to back and what did the contractions actually feel like?
Were they more in the back?
What did the start of contractions feel like?
Thank you!:) x

Both of my previous pregnancies ended with back to back labours. My last labour was quite painful but it wasn't too long so I coped ok. My first was induced due to high bp but in all honesty it wasn't that painful. When I was told to push I was shocked as it hadn't been painful just really annoying, like intense period cramps. With both labours I had gas and air and for me that was enough.
This time who knows, we will see. But please don't think that back to back definitely means intense horrible pain!
Good luck xx

Bloody awful. 30 hours with contractions 3 minutes apart from start to finish. All the pain was in my back/bum. I could deal with the pain, gas and air was fine, then pethidine. I couldn't deal with the exhaustion. I had an epidural, it was bliss, absolute, utter bliss. He was stuck anyway and ended up with an EMCS (Which really wasn't bad.)

If I had an anterior placenta/back to back baby again, I'd ask for an ELCS.

My contractions were a bit different - all at the top of my thighs. None around my abdomen and none in my back. I could barely walk which went against my birth plan of keeping moving.

They were excruciating.

On the plus side I was expecting a long labour, being back to back, but I surprised everyone after begging to be examined an hour after I was 2cm and turned out I was now 5cm, then had him just over an hour later.

I also begged for an epidural as I thought I couldn't do it with the pain but there wasn't enough time. As soon as I got in the pool at 5cm though I basically inhaled gas and air until he arrived and that plus the water helped loads.

My daughter was back to back, I'd had sciatica throughout the pregnancy and the pain was only slightly worse than what I was feeling on a day to day basis.

I had gas and air and meptid??

I tore really bad, 2 x 3rd degree, not sure if this was related to the back to back or not.

Good luck and get as much pain relief as you need!

Excruciating painful and bloody slow (it's the wrong position so it can all slow down). I had to wait 15 hours to dilate sufficiently to receive an epidural. After that is was GREAT! Very calm. They had to use a ventouse to speed up delivery ultimately but that was as much to do with the fact my local health authority have a rule that the baby must be delivered within 48 hours of waters going before contractions starting as it did the baby's position/having the epidural.

My second baby was back-to-back but no one knew until he came out.

The contractions felt normal to me. I can't say they were any different to my other two births.

However, the pushing and crowning was the worst. Probably because he was 9lb 9oz. I was shouting "help me I'm dying" and the midwives told me to get a grip Grin

Having said that, I enjoyed his birth the most of the three. I'm probably a weirdo but I still remember the feeling of having to completely surrender to this amazing, difficult thing my body was doing with no help except gas & air - pushing out a big baby the wrong way round Smile

I've had 2 back to back labours.

First one was natural birth, with gas and air, from established labour to birth in about 8 hours, second one was a crash c-section for reasons unrelated to the position of the baby.

Did it hurt, yes.

Was it unbearable, no.

I think the answer is it just depends on so many factors.

I laboured on my knees as the pain was up my arse and so sitting or lying down was uncomfortable.

HTH

Contractions were felt mainly at the back. I managed to dilate to 2 cm at home with just some discomfort, then went to hospital to have my waters broken (planned induction as way overdue). The pain was very strong and paralysing, couldn't move or do anything during contractions, it felt like my lower back was being crushed by heavy machinery from the very beginning. I only felt pain at the front a handful of times in the 7 hours between waters breaking and getting an epidural (at 7 cm). In that period I had a maximum of 1 minute between contractions, only twice. The rest of the contractions had less than a minute between them. So there wasn't such a thing as sleeping between contractions.

Gas and air did nothing for me and my epidural was bliss Grin However coverage to one side of my body was irregular and needed topping up - this was due to baby's head pressing on the lower back nerves. It also meant my sensation came back at different times after labour.

I tried everything in the book to get DC to move, she did go from breech to head down at almost week 37 so could have been worse I guess? Hmm

I should add, I've only had the one baby so maybe I'm just a bit of a sissy!

Like some pp my ds was back to back and they didn't know until midway through labour. The midwife broke my waters then all hell broke loose Grin. I ended up on my side and had diamorphine. It was probably more sore than dd who was the normal way around but definitely doable.

soundsystem · 24/06/2017 18:06

DC2 was back to back, and contractions did hurt more than with DC1. I was lucky that my labour was short (less than an hour and a half from first twinge until holding baby) but the last two contractions felt like the baby was going to escape out through my back, sort of like that scene in alien! I didn't have any pain relief, though (no time!). And actually, although it was bloody sore it wasn't the worst pain I've ever experienced (getting wisdom teeth out beats all sorts of labour pain in my experience!)

needanothercat · 24/06/2017 18:25

My son was back to back and I got to 4cm with very very mild contractions all around my middle but then my waters broke at 4cm and fierce labour started about 10 mins after with horrendous contractions in my back and I found dead it excruciating to lie on my back and managed well stood up and then bent over the bed. Unfortunately due to a prem birth, I was being monitored so had to go on my back at one point and the pain was so bad I could not get back on to my knees. My son then got stuck while I was pushing so had to be taken to theatre to have forceps. 10/10 would not do it again GrinGrinGrin

2ducks2ducklings · 25/06/2017 09:59

My son was back to back but I wasn't aware. I'd left it too long to have anything other than gas and air so I felt it all and it was very painful. But I did it and so will you xx

toomuchtimereadingthreads2016 · 25/06/2017 10:39

Had a back to back baby two days ago :) had all my hypnobirthing and birth position tooks at the ready, wanting to avoid medicalised birth like my previous. Waters broke, managed to last 19h of contractions all to my front. The pain hit my back at 7cm and it was like nothing I have ever felt am.sorry to say! Epidural was a dream, but had to have it topped up, soooo much pain in my bottom, felt like I had a mobile phone sized rock in my anus trying to get out sideways... joys of back to back haha

Oysterbabe · 25/06/2017 12:18

My first one was back to back and until transition I only had pain in my back. Nothing to compare it to yet but it wasn't that bad for me. I managed fine on gas and air.
