Bear with me please as this could be long.

I have been pregnant 5 times and am in my 6th pregnany now, I have lost 2 babies early on.
I also have 3 children who have all been born prematurely. DS was a breech baby and I had him at 35+5 weeks by emergancy CS as I went into premature labour. DD1 was breech until 30 weeks when she turned head down and I was 3/5 engaged, she was born at 31+1 weeks. DD2 was breech till 32+6 weeks, and she turned headdown and was born the following day at 33 weeks.

Am wondering if the pressure from their heads caused me to go into premature labour and whether a stitch would stop it happening again?

None of my premature labours have been investigated, as I wa told when pregnant with dd2 that I still had a 70% chance of carrying to term (which didn't happen) I don't want this baby to be born early, and I need advice.

it might do, you know... am that no-one's investigated it before now. much cheaper for the NHS to put a stitch in than look after another baby in SCBU. and i'd be mentioning that to my GP tbh.

I did ask when I was pregant with dd2 but they just said that I could carry to term. I was montiored and scanned weekly, but it didn;t stop it happening again. I had a scan on the monday, asked if it was ok if I went to Great ormond street with DS the next day for a checkup, they said yes, that I was showing no signs of going into labour, the following day while at GOS I started to get labour pains, rushed back to the hospital at home, and she was born 12 hours later.

Thing was when I was admitted to the labour ward with DD2 the midwife refused to examine me, in case I wasn't in labour, so I don;t know if my cervix was open at all. I had a show later on, but was told that my contractions were not strong enough to open my cervix.

which was lie, as she was born later that night

I would start by getting copies of your medical notes from your previous pregnancies. From those you can see whether they were actively monitoring the length of your cervix and what that length was at the last measurement.

How far along were you with the pregnancies you lost?

IIRC (and I don't have direct experience, am going on what I remember from talking to those who have so may be completely wrong) putting in a cerclage is by no means guaranteed to prevent IC (although statistically it much improves the chances) and itself carries a risk of causing miscarriage. So I could see that potentially they might think that the risk of putting in a cerclage was greater than the risk associated with delivering at 30+ weeks. But if your losses were 2nd trimester losses then that wouldn't seem so rational.

I don't remember them ever measuring my cervix. I lot the other babie at 8 and 5 weeks. two of my children have disablities, DS has CP caused in pregnancy and DD1 has CP too, but that was caused after deliverly due to her being so early.

It just seems strange to me that as soon as the girls turned head down, I went into labour, I still say that the only reason I carried DS to 35+5 weeks was because he was breech all along

actually have just remember that at 28 weeks a doctor said my cervix was 'soft' with dd2, surely that ain't right

Sounds like it. Go and see a specialist - insist on being referred.

SparklyGothKat · 21/03/2007 00:08

ok as soon as I get my letter from the hospital I will phone the correct dept. and demand to see the consulant.

Dont wait for a letter.

Go to GP and ask for a referral ASAP.

spoke a friend who is a midwife, and she said that I should be seen soon at the hospital anyway as I have had high risk preganancies before.
