Standard time to take maternity leave

Hi,

I was just wondering if there was a standard time to take maternity leave? Should I provisionally say two weeks before due date or would you advise more/less.

My first son came two months early so I had no choice over the matter.

I work in an office based job so low intensity.

Can anyone give any tips please?

I was planning on working until 36weeks, taking 3 weeks annual leave then starting my MAT at 39 weeks but that went to pot when I was made redundant. So I now finish up at about 27weeks. Little to no chance of funding a stop gap job at that point but I'll try, and if successful I'll hopefully work to 39 weeks.
