Swollen feet - does anything actually work?

Ok, it's not just the feet - it's all the way up to my knees and my hands too! I've been suffering for about 10 weeks now and nothing seems to improve it.

My water intake is high and sodium intake is very low. I've tried massage, swimming, cabbage leaves, elevation etc. but nothing makes any difference.

I'm now considering an Epsom salt bath or soaking my feet in tonic water but before I spend money on either of these "remedies" I was wondering if anyone has found anything that actually works???!

have you let your midwife know? swollen feet and hands are a sign of preeclampsia, better to be safe Smile swollen feet were my first symptom of preeclampsia and I just put it down to normal pregnancy xx

CatRash · 16/06/2017 21:35

Yeah they know. I've had raised blood pressure and protein in my urine this week so had to go for extra monitoring to rule out pre-eclampsia and all is ok. I just have to look out for swelling in my face going forward as hands and feet are too far gone already lol!! I'm just puffy Blush

Nothing worked for me, i got DH to do lots of foot massages and kept them elevated where possible with ice on them, i had it up to my knees too, went down pretty quickly after birth thankfully. Hope you don't have to wait too long Flowers

Nothing worked for me either, I even had oedema on my lower belly in the last while which was so weird (but I have a fat belly)

ChristmasSeacow · 16/06/2017 22:36

I could have written this OP! The only thing I can get on my feet are Crocs, and even then I have to put them on in the morning and keep them on, otherwise I can't get them on later in the day!

Hands are incredibly painful. I have horrible tendon pain from the swelling. Less than a week to go, thank goodness!

You have my sympathy but no solution sadly. Hope you haven't got too long to go.

Ahhh good to know I'm not alone but gutted that no-ones found a 'cure' yet!! I've still got 6 weeks to go so a while yet Confused

Oh god, don't think I've got it in my belly yet - that must feel weird! I do suspect I have it in my hips too though. I'm basically Morph right now!

I'm living in one pair of trainers ChristmasSeacow so know the feeling!!! Even flip-flops don't fit - even adjustable flip-flops don't fit!! I have a wedding to attend in three weeks - no idea what I'll be wearing by then!!? Couple of Tesco carrier bags tied on with string might be my only option lol!!

A week to go??! Lucky you and good luck! Bet it'll be a massive relief to have normal hands/feet again!!!

I have the same problem, and for some reason it's much worse on my left foot. The only thing that seems to help is a leg & foot massage in the evening with MamaMio Lucky Legs leg gel- I find this really cooling because it has mint oils in it. Must have gone through nearly a whole bottle already.

I feel like I'm swollen up to my hips, its not pretty Sad and the hot weather only makes it worse. It's the ugliest part of pregnancy so far for me, I hate it! I only hope it goes away after baby comes because it didn't for my mum, she's had swollen feet ever since she had me!

ANLBXX · 17/06/2017 10:56

I had the same problem my sympathies,my midwife suggested laying on your left side with your feet elevated alittle bit,it wasn't a perfect cure but it did help,I used to do this in the evenings and tried to sleep with my ankle and feet elevated

Epsom salt baths and body brushing beforehand definitely seems to work for me although in this heat I'm not sure I can face a bath!

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 17/06/2017 11:36

I swelled up so much with ds2 I gained a shoe size even after the swelling went down. My ankles were the same thickness as my calves and I got carpel tunnel syndrome and needed splints. The swelling of the soft tissue went when he was born. Being heavily pg in the heat doesn't help.

CatRash · 17/06/2017 16:15

Erney Mine is worse I'm my right foot. It's actually developed a jelly-like wobble when I walk! There's absolutely no glamour in pregnancy is there!!?

ANLB I've been trying to elevate as much as possible - I find it hardest at work having to sit at a desk all day though.

Chocolate I might have to try this - but a cool bath! Definitely couldn't face a hot one!!

Oh god Bev you sound like you had a right time of it!! Next time I'm TTC I'm going to actually think about when baby will be due!

Compression flight socks??

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 17/06/2017 16:20

Feet above knees, knees above hips- so basically lie on the floor with your feet resting up on the sofa or a chair for twenty mins.
