Any tips anyone? I never had any sickness with DS but only 6 weeks in this time round and the nausea is nauseating! Would welcome any tips

when you wake up, BEFORE you get out of bed have a dry cracker or a ginger biscuit or a rich tea and a sip or 2 of water

have a packet of crackers with you all the time and nibble

try peppermint tea also

shoobaloo · 20/03/2007 15:08

what kind of crackers nailpolish? And do ginger biscuits really work? Any particular brand work better than others?

i used to just have jacobs cream crackers

Water biscuit crackers are good too

they are weak tasting which helps i think

mcvities ginger nuts are great for nibbling on

the key si to have one or two BEFORE you get out of bed

i hope this helps

I found just eating anything at all helped, but I didn't have it badly. As soon as I ate I felt better, esp. filling stuff like bread and I CRAVED crisps. I put on quite a bit of weight!

nickytwotimes · 20/03/2007 15:12

eating also helped me. i can say though that weight i put on has finally left without resorting to starvation!

ready salted hula hoops, a packet in each pocket and by bed

superloopy · 20/03/2007 15:13

I tried so many things.... every ginger flavoured thing I could find, crackers, dry toast etc. But none of these worked I was always sick.

I just found that when I got up if I quickly drank a pint of water, yes it would make me sick but it didn't taste yucky and once it was over I would feel fine till the next morning....

A little extreme I know but it worked for me!

shoobaloo · 20/03/2007 15:15

THanks everyone - will buy a pack of both the crackers and the biscuits and leave some by the bed at night (although whether they will still be there in the morning or DH will have snaffled them will remain to be seen!)

I used to have to go to work on the tube and it stopped me from barfing on the train and platforms (or other passengers!!)

shoobaloo · 20/03/2007 15:16

this time round I found wine gums very useful for some reason. previously liked the ginger cookies with big chunks of ginger in them - more effective than regular ginger snaps!

shoobaloo · 20/03/2007 15:18

sounds interesting..thing is I hate chunks of ginger! I think I could manage plain old ginger snaps though

oh yes, bundle, it was HULAHOOPS for me too!! went through packs of the stuff. nickytwotimes, i still haven't lost my weight 16 months later! good luck shoobaloo, hope it all stops at 12 weeks...

missnatalie · 20/03/2007 15:40

The only thing that is helping me at the moment is to be constantly eating . Ive gained 7lbs already and im only 8w 4d . Ive found that eating things such as bread, chips and potatos have helped.

NewDKmum · 20/03/2007 19:30

I find that chewing gum and cola is what works best for me.

PurpleLostPrincess · 20/03/2007 20:20

I'm still suffering but a few things help from time to time - fizzy sweets (like haribo etc), rich tea biscuits, toast with just a little butter and cheese crackers. The best thing that kept me going for a while a few weeks back was jelly in whatever flavour took my fancy (usually raspberry or lime).

Hope it clears up soon - I won't give you my horror story!

rowan1971 · 20/03/2007 20:28

Feel like something of an expert on this as I was hyper-emetic both times (great claim to fame, I know). If ginger snaps, digestives etc. don't work for you, try to have something doughy (teacake, fruit muffin) and a glass of sugary fruit juice by your bed and eat it before you get up. Once up, try to eat something every half hour or so. Keep the portions small - slices of apple or banana, cucumber sandwiches, plain crisps, muller rice, yogurt... invalid food. The ideal meal would include some carbohydrate to get your blood sugar up in the short term (pasta is good) and some protein for longer-term boosting (fried chicken used to work for me). In extremis, boiled sweets and lollipops can help, but if you eat too many your blood sugar will crash and you'll feel rubbish again.

If all else fails, go to your GP and ask for some anti-emetic medication. There are things that are pretty safe to take.

Hope you feel better soon!

Lemonade...and carrying round an empty ice cream tub with a lid for those times when the retching turns into something more substantial!

Hopeitwontbebig · 20/03/2007 21:21

I found that having a few sips of coke (not diet) helped when I was feeling really queasy. I agree about boiled sweets or lollies, especially first thing in the morning. I also found drinking anything cold would make me want to hurl.

With DS2 I was really bad, I found that using acupressure travel bands on my wrists helped a lot. You need to wear them day and night for them to have any effect.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

hi shoobaloo, i think we met last year at the burberry thing last year just wanted to say hi and congrats ,,, how are u ??? my user name was mimi1uk xxx

Snarf02 · 23/03/2007 15:12

with my second pg the morning sickness was much worse, had it as soon as we conceived and it went pretty much in the day at over 12wks and now just have it a bit in the evening at 14+2. I ate almost every hour really small portions. I was sick every mornign for four wks as well as nausea all day. Crisps really worked for me, biscuits and crackers. I had smoothies quite a bit so i would get some fruit in.

It should hopefully get better by 12 wks and then you can really enjoy the pg. I could not ever imagine feeling human again as just wanted to curl up in bed all day but with workign pt and a toddler was not an option (did have a sleep when not at work when she had her nap) and i went to bed really early as only time did not feel nausea when was a sleep

HOpe you feel better soon and congrats on the pg

Tatat · 23/03/2007 15:25

Rowan I'm with you there. Feel a bit of an expert, hyperemesis with ds, whole 9 blimmin months. Lost 2.5 ston was lighter when I gave birth than when I fell pregnant! But there we go. Still loved being preggers, ds 8lbs so no real effects there.

So whilst nothing actually stopped me being sick, here are my receommendations for what made me feel a bit better:

Scratch and sniff a lemon/lime other citrus fruit
Chewing ice cubes
Big breaths of fresh cold air
Sleep (theory was that if I'm asleep I can't hurl)

Good luck! Hope it goes soon, I sympathise with how miserable it can make you feel.

marieg76 · 23/03/2007 15:47

I tried so many remedies when I was suffering from morning sickness but literally nothing helped at all... Why doesn't nature make pregnancy easier!

gr8kids · 23/03/2007 18:26

With my other 2 pregnancies i breezed through it with no morning sickness or anything. With this pregnancy i was sick for 18wks. So sorry to tell you this but absolutely NOTHING worked for me. I thought I was gona die of not eating, even drinking water made me ill. Just hang in there. I know its easier said then done. Just know that its a good sign to be having morning sickness. Good luck!!!
