2 MC in the last year and now expecting twins!

I've had 2 MC very close together and OH and I were intending to wait a bit before trying again. Obviously things happened and I discovered I was pregnant again very shortly after my last MC. I was trying to stay positive after the 2 MC but it was a struggle (I lost one at 10 wks and the other at 7, so the last few months have been stressy).

I've just been for my 12 week scan yesterday and I was absolutely stunned to learn I'm expecting twins. In fact, when I noticed that there were 2 heartbeats, I was convinced it must be someone else's scan! A day later and I think my mouth is still hanging open with shock. I literally had NO suspicion at all.

So, trying to adjust from expecting another early MC to having learned that I'm pregnant with two babies AND they both appear to be healthy. Does anyone have any twin experience? What questions should I be asking? Are there any increased risks? Etc etc!

No experience but wanted to say congratulations.

There is a board for multiple births - I'm sure they'll have lots of experience.

MollyHuaCha · 13/06/2017 13:17

Congratulations. Take it easy, put your feet up and look after yourself. Smile

Congratulations!! I'm 23+3 with DCDA twins. My pregnancy was a shock in itself without finding out it was twins. Still don't quite believe it and don't think I will until they arrive. But they've found their feet at long last today and it feel quite surreal

MSH2010 · 13/06/2017 13:21

If you're on Facebook find the "twin mums in uk" group. They've been amazing supporting and helping me

NW10teacher · 13/06/2017 13:22

Thanks! I was actually wondering why I was already (in my eyes) showing quite visibly at this early stage, but I am quite skinny so I thought it was just because of that. Possibly not!

Congrats to all of you as well :)

I told OH last night (he's working abroad) and he literally dropped the phone!

I'm a teacher and I was fully planning to go back in September and see out as much of the term as I could, but yesterday was advised that I might now want to think of going off earlier. Do you think that's likely to be necessary?

My official edd date is 7th october.
But 36/37 is mid September so I'm planning on working until the end of August unless the twins tell me otherwise. I'm an accountant so sit on my bum most the day. Although I'm on the 2nd floor with no air con.

NW10teacher · 13/06/2017 13:50

Ahh, sucks about the air-con! We don't have it either mind you, but at least we can fling all the windows open!

I'm a history teacher, so it doesn't tend to be overly physical either ;) But I do also teach 3 afternoons of PE a week and coach Y7/8 netball, so I may have to think about this...

Twins didn't even enter my mind when I was pregnant, the 13 week scan was a big shock. With hindsight I had terrible morning sickness and could feel my fundal height clearly from around 8 weeks.

What type of twins are you having? I had dcda girls who will be five soon. You will be monitored more closely with fortnightly scans for mcda twins or monthly for dcda twins. You will also have to be consultant led and wont be able to give birth in the midwife led unit.

I worked until 30 weeks (measuring 45 weeks) and babies were born at 34 weeks. You will be the size of full term from around 28 weeks so it is tough going on your body to be measuing full term and more for up to 10 weeks. My final bump measurement on my notes read 50+ weeks at 33 weeks.

Congratulations!

NW10teacher · 14/06/2017 00:05

I bet your girls are gorgeous, neversleepagain. It does sound tough going though - you were brave to work until so late but I'm going to try to do the same (I think). They did mention about measuring full-term from around 28 weeks and how it would be tough on the body and I might want to consider going off work around that point.

MCDA twins, so I will get the one-a-fortnight scans. I think on the positive side I'm going to feel well looked after!

Happy and scared, eep!

Congratulations for a healthy 12 week scan and my sympathies for your losses. If other people's stories are interesting to you, your story reminded me of someone else. I was on a miscarriage board (in another country) with a lady who had four previous miscarriages and then became pregnant with naturally-occurring quads. It was obviously a hugely nerve wracking pregnancy for her but her babies were delivered healthily and after some rocky time in NICU/special care, all four are now doing well some years later, I believe. So I very much hope for a happy safe healthy outcome for you and your twins.

Jenijena · 14/06/2017 04:26

I have no experience of twins, but just wanted to say congratulations and that this thread made me smile. Particularly the bit where your DH dropped his phone in surprise :) best wishes for the next few months and beyond!

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 14/06/2017 04:41

OP,

Your post actually made me well up.
