"Morning" sickness

Any tips welcomed.....
I'm around 8 weeks pregnant, and suffering from horrendous nausea and tiredness.
I've been prescribed cyclizine hydrochloride but it's not doing anything. Eating plain, little and often too.
Working 3 days with a 3 year old on the two other days....and I'm exhausted already. Feeling awful that I just physically can't play with him.
I was as bad when previously pregnant, and obviously got through it as I could nap/cry when I wanted!
Tips most welcome. X

Really feel for you, I ended up off work for four weeks from week 8/9 as just couldnt function! My midwife and GP said sometimes women react differently to different drugs for sickness, I had to try two before I got any kind of relief. Go back and ask for an alternative to try, they have a 'ladder' of meds they try and cyclizine is the first step, they also sometimes combine two together. No advice otherwise as I literally got no relief other than madecation!!!

Go back to your doctor, there are other anti sickness medicines you could try.

Howimetyourdaddy · 12/06/2017 15:47

I really feel for you OP. I was sick for pretty much 9 months through both of my pregnancies. I tried lots of different meds but nothing worked.

Tips I can offer:

• Sucking extra strong mints makes nausea a little more bearable.
• Bananas aren't too bad come back up!
• Eat anything bland. I ate potatoes in every variety of food.
• Eat little and often - every 2 hours so your stomach is never empty.
• Keep breakfast biscuits/ bananas by the side of your bed and eat them before you get out of bed in the morning. I also used to eat something around midnight so my tummy wasn't empty for such a long period.

I hope this helps a little bit.

You will get through it and it's so worth it.

I have hyperemisis. Have had it with 4/5 pregnancies and this too me I'm on ondansetron after trying various other medications.
This is the only one that has worked and I feel like I can function again

If cyclizine isn't working for you as your gp to prescribe something different.
Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Oh gosh, it's awful Flowers

If I saw anything that I vaguely thought 'I could manage that' I ate it. My DS was 16 months and I ended up introducing him to CBeebies because I just needed to sit still. I also read him a lot of stories. Not sure how well either work with a 3 year old but I guess my tip is to not beat yourself up if you need to do things you wouldn't normally to survive. I'm due next month and already planning to have DS in the garden as often as possible so he can run his energy off out there without too much input from me - could this work for your little one?

I also went to bed whenever I could and DH took on more of the tasks I normally do until I was feeling better.

Hopefully it won't be too long before things ease and you can start to enjoy pregnancy a bit more Smile

It's horrendous. Nothing works for me apart from ondansetron. Even that's losing its magic touch!

Lemondrop99 · 12/06/2017 16:06

Cyclizine did absolutely nothing for me. Go back and talk to your GP about trying something else. This is a great place to start

You have my sympathy, sickness can be terrible

Lemondrop99 · 12/06/2017 16:08

Also bland salty carbs are your friend (ready salted crisps, crackers, mashed potato with gravy) and try sugary drinks. Some people like flat Coke, I found Lucosade settled my stomach a little bit

Sjjr23 · 12/06/2017 18:43

Thanks all. Will speak to doctor again tomorrow. Planning a tea of carbs and bed as soon as the 3year old sleeps in the hope of surviving tomorrow at work.....x

Still waiting for a call back from doctor. Having to be off work sick already :/

I ended up having to get pills from the doctor but they didn't work very well! The thing that really worked was Ginger Root Tablets (you can get from Holland and Barrett etc.) Really really helped with the nausea, especially as so many people recommended ginger biscuits but I couldn't keep them down. X

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 16/06/2017 20:45

Peppa Pig on a loop. And the incredibly fun game 'bathtime' which involves putting ds in a bath and me vomiting into the toilet next to him. Sometimes mummy gets into the bath too... and then gets out again to vomit some more. Ds thinks it's hilarious! I can't say anything about meds because I haven't tried any yet, but all I could eat/drink last time was salted popcorn and flat coke. I lived on that for about 6-8 weeks. I hope you feel better soon!

Eat high protein feeds and take small sips of water to stay hydrated and drink No to morning sickness tea for easing your sickness/nausea. It was my only lifesaver when I was in the same boat you are in now!

Sjjr23 · 19/06/2017 20:33

Got metoclopramide now....still feeling horrendous. Really want to avoid going off sick at this point / having to tell the nosey buggers!

Sorry to hear you're suffering. I'm 16 weeks and also on anti sickness tablets (same as you but I don't have them to hand to spell them lol).
However I find they work for me, but I feel like I have to rely on them in order to feel 'normal'. If I don't take them then I get quite bad.

I've been after advice too but nothing seemed to work, all I can say is try and keep hydrated, ice pops are good to suck on and for keeping hydrated too, eat little and often, don't eat massive meals.

Fingers crossed this passes for you soon so you can enjoy your pregnancy Flowers
