Hi all,
I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant, due to complications delivering my first child I'm having to have a csection this time but due to medical reasons I can't have an epidural or spinal so they are going to do it under general anaesthetic.
I have friends that have had csections but none who have had one under general, I'm just hoping someone can talk me through it really as the drs are great at explaining it from a medical point of view but it would be nice to hear it from another Mum.
Also, I'm high risk with this pregnancy so having extra scans, and my medical condition is making me poorly towards the end of the pregnancy, I was wondering how many weeks you was when they booked you in, I was hoping I could be booked in early so I can get back on my medication but want to do what's best for my baby.
Any advice would be extremely helpful.

Thank you, I will speak to them when I see them next at 29 weeks, I've seen that most people have their csections booked in at 39 weeks, would they consider doing it sooner I.e. 37 weeks? My thyroxine levels are constantly changing due to the baby and making me quite poorly I also have a nerve desease which has left one of my legs dead so I have mobility issues, the last pregnancy I ended up with e tremendous walking issues near to the end and couldn't get myself in and out of bed...

I had a crash section under GA and had a pretty bad recovery but I put that down more to the 3 days being induced and in labour, failed forceps, being ill before I was even induced and the fact it really was a genuine emergency so it was very rushed. I then had an elective with a spinal for DC2.

When i woke up (eventually after drifting in and out a few times) I heard a baby crying and asked DH if it was ours. He had already told me a few times but waking from a GA is not a clear awake! I was then presented with a washed and dressed baby who already had a name on his label. To be fair, it was the only name we had picked but I expected to look and confirm he looked like the name.

DH and the midwife thought they were doing the right thing but I missed out on seeing my baby in his natural state, skin to skin and the weighing, first washing and dressing plus naming!! Being honest this really did effect me for a good while afterwards.

So when I had an elective for DC2 I made a birth plan. Everyone laughed at me but I was very clear he wasn't going to be weighed, washed or dressed without me. I said I wanted him kept warm in a towel then skin to skin. The staff tried to take him off and weigh him (he was massive tbf!) but I was awake so stopped them. I know I was awake so that was a big part of it but certainly not the only thing that made the experience very different.

For me the big learning points or things I would change (apart from the whole medical thing!) are to ensure you don't miss out on any of the first moments we take for granted. I don't blame DH as he went along with what they told him and probably didn't think but I do resent it if I am completely honest.

Oh thank you for telling me that, I have told the other half that I want him to do skin to skin then wrapped in a blanket until I wake so I can then do skin to skin.
