Iron levels

M/W pointed at mine and said "it's okay, but keep an eye on it as it will go down" (good job I like spinach) test results state 126gIL.

Can anyone tell me what the normal range is?

Google doesn't seem to be giving it to me in the same range/measurement and I'm confused.

115-165 is the normal range for haemoglobin, is that right?

Why is she telling you to keep an eye on it?

That's her job...................

You're at the low end of the normal scale for females, which from what I can see is the 115-160 you've found. How far along are you? And yes, it is normal for them to go down, and be monitored during pregnancy.

How many weeks are you? 126 is pretty good, I wouldn't be too worried about that, certainly doesn't require any follow up/treatment.

16 weeks.

2nd pregnancy, 1st was premature. I queried the fact she only wants me to stick to the 2nd pregnancy schedule of appointments as I'd never gone to term and her response was "you can have more if you like but really if you think you're going into labour you should go straight to hospital".

Still awaiting my consultant appointment, I'm assuming she forgot to book it 🙄 she did phone whilst I was there this time to chase it up.

Hopefully I'll become consultant led going forward.

126 is pretty good and as long as you feel generally well then I wouldn't worry about iron levels. It won't necessarily go down. And if you tend to eat a lot of leafy greens anyway you should be fine.

My iron absolutely tanked to 90 around 23 weeks and I bloody well knew it before I even got the test results- I felt absolutely awful. Hopefully you will be okay 😊

Your midwife doesn't sound terribly helpful! Is there anyone else you could request to see or is it just her at your surgery?

I didn't see a consultant until my 20 weeks scan so maybe you could chase too by ringing the antenatal people at your hospital to get it booked in asap.

Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy OP! Flowers

Mine was 105 at 24 weeks, so less than the lower amount of 115. I'm waiting for my appointment next week to see if I've managed to get it up, I've made a big effort. I do feel a bit better though, I was really tired before!

So I'd be happy with your 126, I don't think you need to worry about that if you feel well.

110g/L and above is normal under 28/40
105g/L from 28/40 is normal.
Most pregnant women sit between 110-130 during pregnancy

How prem were you? My ds was born at 27 weeks and I'm now 23 weeks with second and consultant led with scans every 2 weeks. Surely you should have seen someone else by now, depending on how prem you were?

Do you expect weekly blood tests or something? Most people can tell from their symptoms if they are low in iron before a midwife appointment. Especially when told to look out for it...
