Hey all,

I'm 11 weeks of and experiencing horrendous headaches...they radiate down my neck...current one is 3 days long now. It wakes me from my sleep. Paracetamol isnt touching it at all.

Has anyone experienced anything similar.

Not sure I can take any more :(

I never take pareceotmol for headaches - does nothing to help. I always take ibuprofen, but if you're pregnant you may want to speak to a doctor before trying anything else medication wise. I know they don't really recommend taking ibuprofen while pregnant.

Do you know what's kicked it off, OP? I can always tell what's caused a headache for me depending on how the pain feels and where I'm experiencing it - from dehydration to tension from staring at a screen too long, etc. If you suspect it's pregnancy related, call the doctor or speak to a midwife for advice Flowers

I wouldn't take ibuprofen without a doctors say so.

I've always got headaches but they seem to effect me more now that I'm pregnant, I think mainly because I can't take my usual cocktail of drugs! Usually they wake me up or stop me sleeping and can sometimes effect my vision. I generally manage with paracetamol but have had to have a few days off as I could not have looked at a screen.

Try paracetamol, keeping hydrated, keeping the light and noise low, have your eyes tested even and don't look at screens. And if you're still suffering definitely go to the doctors. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm not dehyrated..i drink loads of water. I took my blood pressure yesterday and it was quite low so I'll keep an eye on that.

This is day four now..i started a new job this week so I initially thought it was the stress or anxiety of that but it's going on quite a while!

It sometimes feels like there's a knife stuck in right above my eye! Very unpleasant!!!

Hi.

I suffer from migraines and headaches and am under a neurologist. During my first pregnancy I didn't get a single migraine let alone a headache. During this one I've had quite a few. My pregnancy consultant said that if normal methods don't make it go away then I need to go to triage (or GP before 16 weeks) so that they can rule out anything pregnancy related before I call my neurologist (neurologist said he could numb the nerves in my neck to soften the pain).
If you don't usually suffer then I'd book in at my GP if I were you just to check things out.
I need to do the same as I'm suffering almost daily and turn 16 weeks next week.

I read on this thread earlier that drinking coke is supposed to help with headaches. I've been suffering pretty badly with headaches too and tried it and it eased my headache a lot so might be worth a try although don't overdo the caffeine in pregnancy!

Ikillpotplants · 09/07/2017 22:30

I had similar during both my pregnancies for the first three months. About one bad headache a week which lasted a 2/3 days and paracetamol didn't help. I would see gp to be on safe side. With me though, it was just a pregnancy symptom. Sorry to hear you're suffering. It's miserable.

Make sure you contact your midwife. Headaches in pregnancy that are not helped with painkillers need to be monitored x

I feel you, OP. I'm also 11 weeks and getting the same headaches going down my neck. I've spent the whole afternoon in bed trying to sleep it off to no avail. If you find anything that fixes it, please let me know!

I got loads during both pregnancies up to about 16 weeks or so

I found out today that you can also take codeine altho best to take half doses

Sorry just need to add for any pregnant women who happen upon this thread:

DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN WHEN PREGNANT!

Or any other NSAIDs (aspirin, naproxen etc).

They are a Cat D in the third trimester meaning they can cause significant harm. They can prematurely close a passage in your babies heart, lead to low amniotic fluid levels and cause low blood pressure in newborns.

Just wanted to put that out there Flowers
