What to wear in weeks after birth?

Does anyone have any thoughts about what they'll wear to breastfeed in/will wear after the birth. I was planning vest tops underneath to pull up, so was more thinking what to wear on top. I'm expecting twins so think my maternity clothes might be too stretched but I know I'm going to have quite a big bump still. Any thoughts? Thank you! It'll be end of summer so quite hot. Thanks!

I wore my maternity clothes for a few weeks after birth. And for the first week or so I mostly wore PJ's.

H&M do some nice button up sleeveless blouses, found them great for breastfeeding. I used to sometimes wear two vest tops underneath so I could pull one up and one down and stay covered.

I got a few cheap loose tops from Asda which I wore with vests underneath. Big pants with a high waistline and loose soft black trousers with a high waistline. I was a section though. The black trousers saved me a couple of times when I flooded, anything lighter would have shown up the blood. Obviously I changed them right after but I had a lot of people over to see the baby and it would have been embarrassing at the minute it happened. Also huge pads are good.

I had a few pairs of maternity trousers that were like yoga pants, with a wide-ish band but not fully over bump. I wore those, with H&M nursing vests and loose t-shirts that I could fit the baby under to feed.

I didn't go out at all for a few weeks (lovely baby snuggles, why rejoin the world until you have to) so I basically lived in pyjamas Grin

Thanks for the tips! I'll be doing the school run quite quickly so need to look semi-presentable, sadly!

Best advice I got was to buy dark coloured pjs. I was bleeding quite a lot after birth for about 6 weeks and my black pjs saved my pretty white ones from being ruined.

During the day, yoga pants with strappy tops and long wrap cardigans.

I sport cheap bf'ing vests under an open shirt..... I then quickly do up shirt to answer door etc if needed. Button up pj's for bed....

Backt0Black · 05/06/2017 12:54

second dark PJ's. I had c section and bleeding hasnt long stopped (2 months pp here)

For section - tent-like pants that sit snugly just under the boobs. Anything touching the scar no good, so even maternity leggings felt too tight... as It's summer if you've had maternity dresses on the go could you carry on with these?

LumpySpaceCow · 05/06/2017 21:09

Pj's!

LexieLulu · 05/06/2017 21:12

Leggings, oversized tees, long cardies that covers bum in case of leaks x

fabulous01 · 05/06/2017 21:13

I wore leggings and maternity tops. With twins bf is harder (I have twins) so I recommend a twin feeding pillow not the single one. You can get them second hand.
Congrats you will be very busy but it is fab

I wore Isabella Oliver breastfeeding tops, they were amazing

Are you on Facebook? Look up the group Can I Breastfeed In It? UK. Very supportive group full of great ideas for post natal attire :)

Primark and charity shops.

Did a huge run when I was about 36 weeks along, brought about ten £2 basic vests so I could pull the front down while leaving my tummy covered, a pile of loose black pyjama pants, then hit up the charity shops for button up shirts. Boom. Lived in those outfits for the first month. The best thing is if you pair it up with jeans it actually looks like you've put some thought into it.

It is beyond me why anyone spends huge amounts of money on breastfeeding clothes. The bras, fine, but even those I never bothered with. You don't need fancy shit to breastfeed in. It will get vomited on, pooped on and possibly bled on. Cheap and cheerful is key.

Blondielongie · 07/06/2017 13:43

Dark dressing gown. I wore a white one to hospital after labour.... mistake! lol

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 07/06/2017 17:05

Another vote for primark vest tops. In fact, Primark all around!

With DD I bought a selection of colours and teamed them with light knit jumpers, T-shirts and button up shirts (these were my least favourite). Top up, vest down. So easy. Will be doing the same again this time around.

I also recommend cheap sports bras instead of 'proper' breastfeeding bras. Spent a fortune on the proper ones and never got on with them. A few quid on sports bras was money FAR better spent, and lasted brilliantly for over 18 months of feeding.

Some really great ideas, thank you so much!

I've got a couple of maternity dresses that I remember wearing in the weeks after giving birth last time round, I think I'll do the same again. They are v-neck/wrap style dresses made from stretchy lightweight t-shirt material, so you just pull it down on one side to breastfeed.

There's a FB group called "Can I Breastfeed In It? UK" which I have just joined and it's great for clothing ideas and suggestions. Smile

I'm probably the anomaly but post section I couldn't wear big pants as I had nerve damage on one side of my stomach, so anything even slightly touching it drove me bonkers.

I ended up in dresses and v loose tie top trousers as a result. In fact I've only just got rid of my maternity yoga trousers after 20 months Grin

thethoughtfox · 08/06/2017 07:14

Mothercare maternity yoga pants. £18 and so comfy and soft.

emma8t4 · 08/06/2017 12:20

Vest tops, button up shirts and leggings. Shirt open vest up and you are comfortably covered.
