My bloody cats keep bringing me bloody (sometimes literally) live mice, birds and rat babies. Confused

Very insistent that I take them.

Two of them (the cats) have practically velcro-ed themselves to my side, and come and sit with me and pat me gently when I'm throwing up. Pretty sure they think the baby is one of theirs.

Their odd behaviour around me was one of the reasons I took the pregnancy test in the first place.

Guessing they can either tell I am not 100% as I am in bed a lot, or they can smell the hormonal changes and are acting on instinct.

Anyone else have pets that 'know' something is up, and have been acting weirdly since you got the BFP?

My cat knew before we did - and I got a BFP at 11/12 DPO so he sensed it very early on!!

My username is actually made up of my two earliest symptoms - my cat and suddenly breaking out in excema on my hands (CatExcema didn't have the same ring to it lol)!

He just got super clingy and cuddly and suddenly started kneading me - something he's never done to anyone or anything before.

I'm almost 33 weeks and he's not as clingy now - either that or I'm just too used to it! Whenever someone comes round to visit and we're sat on the sofas, he will sit on me with his back to the visitor in a protective/possessive way.

He hasn't bought me any gifts but I'm not sure he's actually capable of hunting - more of a lover than a fighter bless him!

We did have some major urinary tract issues with him between around 6-12 weeks so interesting that other people have mentioned weeing. He cost us a lot in vets fees but Feliway plug-in diffusers helped the situation massively - it seemed he'd get anxiety whenever I wasn't there.

MrsAshwell I'm glad you liked that! Was an awful time for me.

This is making me miss my old cat so much , he died recently of old age and I'm 11 weeks now-I think a baby would have stressed him out but he was my baby for so long!

phoenixtherabbit · 05/06/2017 18:26

Yep both of them would not leave me alone from day one. I'm pretty sure they knew before I did.

They of course hated me and the baby with a passion when he was tiny and favoured dp who they couldn't have given a shiny shit about before!

Now we're all friends again but the poor cats don't half get ragged about by ds no matter how hard I try to teach him to be gentle. They just let him do it the idiots!

mrsBeverleygoldberg · 05/06/2017 18:34

My precious baby girl (cat,) glared at my bump. It made her angry I think.

My cats are not people cats at all but they won't leave me alone. I have a tabby and a Maine coon. The tabby cat likes being stroked generally but more so now, she likes to kneed my bump and boobs and licks hands.
The Maine coon hates everyone but she is by my side 24/7, under my feet, watches me on the loo and sits in the window when I'm in the shower. She sleeps between my legs in bed, meows at me and paces around until I sit down so she can lay on me like a baby.
Both cats have bought me at least one present a day, mainly dead birds but yesterday it was a half eaten frog!
I have two dd's already who the little tabby cat love, not sure dd3 will be welcomed so easily as my older two were 4 & 6 when we got the cats, they've never been around babies or toddlers.

Trixxy66 · 05/06/2017 23:46

Not cat related but when my friend had her baby her dog started lactating!

KatieK79 · 06/06/2017 00:02

Wow! This thread is so interesting! As parent/pregnant cat owners I was hoping you could help... I've just had (unplanned/scary/yet exciting) bfp but we were planning on getting two cats soon... do you think that's still wise?! Confused

NoSquirrels · 06/06/2017 00:19

Ha! Both pregnancies our boy cat refused to have anything to do with sitting on my lap- he would actively avoid it, if you picked him up and put him down on me he'd practically freak out trying to get off. And nothing to do with baby kicking etc - his aversion was a really early sign something odd was going on. Odd.

He was super tolerant with the babies/toddlers and live he a loon would always turn up when the house was full of visiting kids who wanted to chase and stroke him.

I do miss the bastard sometimes.

robinia · 06/06/2017 00:24

My girl cat knew.

HirplesWithHaggis · 06/06/2017 01:00

KatieK, you'll be fine, but you must not clean the litter tray when pregnant. Oh dear, what a pity Grin

Raffles1981 · 06/06/2017 08:06

Yeah, my cat's behaviour was my first clue. He is a Hybrid, so pretty big, and used to lie on me whenever I lay down. He stopped doing that and started lying on his back, across my lap. He would purr so loudly whilst cuddling into my side. I had no sickness but when I felt nausea (which was a lot) he would sit and rub my face, my neck, and constantly check up on me. He did the checking up thing a lot when my brother died, got very needy and is pretty much being the same now. It is lovely, but I do get such a row if I dare leave the room without him!

KatieK79 · 06/06/2017 11:26

Hirples - thanks! And yes, indeed, what a shame Wink

SecondMrsAshwell · 06/06/2017 12:53

Sorry to hear it was really bad for you BreakingBad have Cake

I found it funny as it rang a bell with me. I went away for the weekend recently and was comprehensively punished in a similar manner.

Aquiver - I've got both male and female cats (all spayed/neutered) and have found the boys to be more attentive than the girl. But this could be because she's still a kitten.

One of our cats is an elderly rescued stray who we neutered and adopted. He's by far the soppiest one at the moment, so pretty sure he had a wife and kittens at some point.

So instead of spending all sorts of money on pregnancy tests all that's really needed is a cat scan and lab test? Awesome!

WeeCheekyBird · 07/06/2017 20:56

My male cat has gone from loving my husband more than me to being my all-time-best-buddy.

He sleeps curled up against bump every night and gives it a wee lick before he settles up against it - he also pokes her and she kicks him back.

I'm type 1 diabetic too and he's taken on a hypo-cat role and wakes me up if my blood sugars get too low.

He did try and umm...drink a little leakage from me the other night though which majorly freaked me out and I now wear tighter tops to bed Confused

Guaranteed he'll go back to being a little dick and ignoring me for husband after she's born though!

LemonRedwood · 07/06/2017 21:03

LurkingQuietly Of course, it could just be that your cat's a dick Grin

sizeofalentil · 09/06/2017 22:27

Currently throwing up (I get morning sickness at night, yay!) with one cat holding my toe with his paw for moral support, while the other cat brings me her favourite toys one by one to see if they'll make me feel better.
