Haven't been for 3 days. Went to pharmacy who said they couldn't sell me anything as I'm pregnant. Takes too long for Dr appointment and booking in not until next week. Argh! Can't face prune juice as I've been suffering with vomiting.

I bought some ginger & blueberry chewable things from Boots today to help with nausea, they were in the pregnancy section. Too many of them has a laxative effect it says, but then it also says too much ginger is a bad thing when pregnant. Lots of water and fresh fruit maybe?
I'm suffering as well and it's painful, but when I do go it's bad like diahorrea (sorry tmi)

VocalCat · 01/06/2017 21:16

I used to drink loads of Lactulose. Doctors will prescribe it for you when pregnant if necessary but you can buy it over the counter as well (cheaper for the NHS) and I've never been challenged when doing so, despite being clearly pregnant and saying it is for me.

Smurfy23 · 01/06/2017 22:00

Litres of water and bowls of wheatabix?

OhOurBilly · 01/06/2017 22:04

Licorice was my saviour during pregnancy. And bran flakes. And orange juice.

SeatOfMyPants · 02/06/2017 02:30

You can buy lactulose over the counter when pregnant m. I had this too - boots pharmacisist wouldn't give it to me but did some research and went to another pharmacist and looked like the boots one didn't really know/was covering her back. Obviously you CAN get it on prescription (then it's free) but you can also buy it over counter.

MmmMalbec · 02/06/2017 07:27

Fybogel and prune juice really got me going. Have you tried the prune juice really really cold? It went down much better for me then!

flumpybear · 02/06/2017 07:37

Lactulose!!

Mommawoo · 02/06/2017 07:40

Fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt, the Fage one. Sympathies op, I had it so bad in pregnancy Flowers

angelopal · 02/06/2017 07:43

Currently on lactulose. It's what the chemist gave me. Got everything going and now taking a daily dose. Also drink lots of water.

putputput · 02/06/2017 07:50

Can you send someone to go for you? Most stuff can be sold over the counter.
The only thing, as far as I know, you should avoid is anything that stimulates the bowel - so bisacordyl, senna etc. However this is only if you're in your 3rd trimester.

Lemondrop99 · 02/06/2017 07:50

Thingy, are you on medication gof your sickness? If so, are you On ondansetron?

I found that's given me terrible constipation and no amount of fibre or prune juice shifted it Sad

The pharmacist would only give me lactulose, which is a sugar that works as a stool softener. They should be fine with selling you that. My pharmacist refused to sell me anything else.

I got a prescription for bisacodyl (Dulcolax) from the GP in the end, which I need to take intermittently

MabelTheCow · 02/06/2017 09:51

Another vote for lactulose ... tastes like maple syrup

Thingymaboob · 02/06/2017 13:00

@Lemondrop99 I am on ondansetron. All pharmacies I've gone to have refused to sell it to me. 😩

Fybogel is licensed for used during pregnancy (it says so on the box I bought a few weeks ago) and I'm almost 99% sure movicol and lactulose are also. Over cautious Pharmacist I think. When I bought mine nobody asked if I was pregnant (was only about 7 weeks and I didn't volunteer the information as I knew it was fine.
I have also been drinking lots of orange juice and eating shreddies which I think has helped too

Emma2803 · 02/06/2017 21:41

See, it's says which includes constipation during pregnancy!

Laxatives
Lemondrop99 · 02/06/2017 21:51

You have my sympathy. Ondansetron constipation is something else.

If your problem is hard stools, then I'd suggest Lactulose and Fibregel. I am 100% positive they are fine in pregnancy. If the pharmacist insists on being ridiculous, then send in a non pregnant person to purchase it for you.

If your problem (like mine) is that your vowels aren't pushing, then you'll need a stimulant laxitive like bisacodyl or senna. Pharmacists rightly won't sell these to you, and you will need to go to your GP to discuss and get a prescription.

In the mean time, drink as much fluid as you can (easier said than done when you're vomiting), and if you get really desperate, have some latex gloves on hand (sorry if TMI, but it's got that bad with me Sad)

alltalknobaby · 02/06/2017 22:01

Another vote for Lactulose. I took it throughout my pregnancy, and supplemented it with Fybogel at times too. You have my full sympathy. Feel better soon!

YouFightLikeADairyFarmer · 02/06/2017 23:12

I'm also on ondansetron and suffering - prune juice just isn't cutting it. My midwife told me to get lactulose - only two days in and it's already working.

If your pharmacists are being difficult, can you send someone to buy it for you?

Thingymaboob · 02/06/2017 23:15

@YouFightLikeADairyFarmer
I am only 9 weeks pregnant so I just went to another pharmacy and didn't tell them. I have been vomiting too much to take it tonight but I have now kept my evening ondansetron down so will take it in the morning. I really need to keep my fluids up. Thank you all for your advice. I'll let you know the outcome 😉
