Beach holiday at 26 weeks, I want cancellation insurance cover

I'm currently 16 weeks with my first, I've had no sickness or complications so far so my partner and I would like to go to Turkey on a 2 weeks beach holiday. We normally go in September but I don't feel comfortable with that so instead we're planning to go beginning of August when I'll be 26 weeks pg. I saw my mw yesterday and sother far all is good. We've got travel insurance through lloyds bank but will need to contact them to inform them of pregnancy and check their cover. I want to get cancellation cover just in case I run into complications as I don't want to risk losing all the money. We're booking with Thomson or first choice. Any experience of getting insurance with cancellation cover? Any recommendations would be greatSmile

If you are medically unable to go on holiday, all travel insurances should cover you for that. If it's just that you change your mind or don't feel up to it I doubt if you will get cover!

Our insurance is through our Natwest account and when I called to tell them I was pregnant they said they didn't need to know, pregnancy wasn't something you needed to declare.

If you want the reassurance of a policy that specifically covers pregnancy (including birth and medical expenses for baby) then Insure and Go cover you up to 32 weeks. But as above if it is the cancellation you are concerned about because of illness developing between now and when you go most policies should cover that but they often have quite low cover limits (e.g £1500) so check how much cover you get

We had Virgin insurance and didn't need to inform them. They would have covered cancellation due to medical reasons or complications abroad but not cancellation because we changed our minds.

Thank you for your replies. Some insurances only cover from the day you travel but I want to make sure that my insurance cover from the day I book and also cover potential pregnancy isues while away.

IVE just spoken to my insurance through bank of Scotland bank account. They have said I don't need to mention pregnancy as it isn't a medical condition. She did talk me through some of the terms though. If I cancelled due to morning sickness or back ache (usual pregnancy symptoms) then I would get no refund however if it was something unusual (bleeding, stomach cramps) then they would cover me for cancellation or medical treatment while away.

One thing worth checking is if the baby will be covered should he or she be born prematurely. Very few policies have this included so your medical expenses are covered but not the baby's. Insure and go annual family coverage is the only one we could find that automatically included the baby.

It's going to be very hot at the beginning of August in Turkey. Just be aware you might struggle a bit with the heat
