Babymoon!

Hello! I would love suggestions for a UK based baby moon that doesn't cost an absolute bomb. Was looking at Scarlet Hotel in Cornwall, which we've been to before - but any other (less expensive) ideas would be much appreciated! A bit of spa time would be nice, but a lovely hotel in a relaxed setting is the priority. Thanks!

I love the Scarlet. It's my favourite place. I'm sad I can't go there any more because I inconveniently have a child. So I would say go again while you still can!

I am off to the cotswold plough hotel to do their all inclusive deal. No swimming pool though!

Due in a few weeks and just returned from nance relaxing holiday. Spa by the sea, massages, swimming pool and walks on the beach for some fresh air. The weather not amazing but it was really peaceful. Was great to spend time together before baby arrives especially just to switch off and be able to talk without the dramas of every day life. Hope you find somewhere nice and enjoy...

41 weeks here... DH and I disappeared to Barcelona for 3 nights for a damn sight less than that when I was 34 weeks 😱

ElleMcElle · 31/05/2017 19:28

Thanks @MiniMaxi - Will check it out!

Have a look at the pig - they have a couple but I've been to the original and it's lovely - really nice restaurant and spa.

ElleMcElle · 31/05/2017 19:32

@Lules - Yes, it's gorgeous and so relaxing! I am tempted to go back while we still can!

@Jellybabie3 - Ooh, that looks lovely too!

Thanks @Mustbeinsane1984

@RasperryInAMelon - Sounds good (and much better value) - but not sure if I can be faffed with airports!

just me or a hell of a lot of snark on this thread?!

whatever you call it, wherever you go, i'd say definitely try to get some time in to just LAZE together before the baby comes. anywhere with a pool, some decent weather, and a breakfast in bed option (even if that's your OH and a travel kettle!) will be something you'll draw on when you're discombobulated and dishevelled in a few months' time! :)

we had a week in formentera (holiday we'd planned anyway) about 7.5 months into my pregnancy and it was bliss just being away together in the sea and sun, having naps and eating ice cream for breakfast. it was actually my 'happy place' that i went to during hypnobirthing! and i still think about it happily all the time.

enjoy this time - it's really special.

@Clarab0w - Ha! Yes, I did have to check that I hasn't accidentally strayed into AIBU...! But some lovely suggestions coming in now - thank you!

That looks gorgeous but so expensive!
We will be having a weekend away when I am around 7/8 months pregnant without my little boy. I'm looking for a luxury hotel in South Wales or Devon/Dorset (anywhere near the coast that is not too far from Bristol) so following for any suggestions. Not bothered about it being a 'babymoon', sounds like a bit of a gimmick for hotels to add high prices on!

Heratnumber7 · 01/06/2017 13:18

I dont really understand this babymoon idea. Towards the end of my pregnancies i was tired, cranky, hot and couldn’t sleep in my own bed, never mind a hotel bed. You can’t even have a drink to help you sleep. Has anyone done this and actually enjoyed it?

^This. I couldn't even fit any shoes on, only flip flops.

firsttimemummy24 · 01/06/2017 13:33

We leave for our babymoon next Wednesday I'm so excited! One last holiday as two before little one arrives we are going abroad so I can't help with recommendations- I'm 21weeks so chose to do it before I get too big and cranky!

I hope you have a wonderful time OP wherever you decide to go!!

Xxx

We love The Pig hotels especially The Pig on the Beach. Its really close to Studland beach and Swanage. Amazing food and big comfy beds. Still a bit pricey but worth it for a special treat.

Why do you have a babymoon in a hotel?

This term, which has been continually in use since the 1970s at least, refers to the bonding period you have with a newborn, and always used to mean cocooning at home until you got to know each other a bit better.

If you would really want to do this in a hotel (and I can see the attractions if room service!) you will need to think about

a) what baby equipment you will be taking wi you, and what you are happy for to take a chance on at destination
b) location of nearest medical services (MW visit in first 10 days, and HV thereafter, but would expect to come to your home, I don't know how you book out of area)
c) flexible booking, in case your baby arrives early or late

I strongly recommend you rule out the Carribean, or indeed anywhere that would normally require travellers to have had jabs your baby will be too young for. Though there is no bar to going anywhere as soon as the baby has a passport.

Wherever you end up, I hope it is indeed the bonding process for the three of you that it's always meant to be.

Agree, and I think that's why it's traditionally in the new mother's home. But travel is so much easier now, and birth usually uncomplicated, that planning to take your brand new baby away just isn't as daunting as it used to be.

ElleMcElle · 01/06/2017 16:07

'Babymoon' used to refer to the weeks immediately after birth - but these days, the more usual meaning is a final child-free holiday before the baby arrives.

@acquiescence - Those locations could work well for us too, so let me know if you find anywhere good! St Brides Spa Hotel looks great - if West Wales is also good for you?
