Sore crampy tummy and painful braxton hicks at 30 weeks

I have had a sore tummy on and off all day. Discomfort ranges between cramps in the lower part of my belly, a sore back and fairly painful braxton hicks.

The baby is moving around like mad so I am happy that he is ok. My gut instinct is that my belly is due to go up a size in the next day or two and the pain is due to stretching. I have already been to the hospital for suspected broken waters at 24 weeks which turned out to be nothing (felt like a right idiot)...

Do you think its a normal part of the tummy stretching or possibly a sign of something more sinister?

I'd ring your midwife or labour ward to check - I had pains at 28 and 30 weeks, which I got checked out immediately, and they were able to stop threatened labour, after giving me steroid injections. It is best to get it checked asap, as the earlier they can give you the 'drugs' if you need it, the better. People who leave it too long, could end up in early labour.

Don't want to panic you, but it is obviously worrying you. I thought I was wasting their time too, but it turns out I wasn't.

Ring the labour ward and ask for advice. Always do that if in doubt in pregnancy.....

Rang the labour ward and as I suspected they asked me to go in to be monitored. I have decided not to rush down there - have taken two paracetemol and will go in in the morning if things don't improve.

I am 99% positive that if I do go in I'll feel as fit as a fiddle as soon as those monitors go onto my belly and end up feeling foolish again...

If its painful enough to need paracetamol go! Feeling foolish is better than a baby not getting steroids in an unavoidable early labour!

We've all done it. I went down unecessarily in both my pregnancies. Probably do it again this time. The worst bit was having to have an bloody internal each time, but I'd still rather have done it. And the midwives don't mind- they'd be crosser with you if you don't go when you need to.

Here endeth the lecture but I do get quite bossy about getting things checked out during pregnancy (and usually I'm a never see the doctor unless I really have to type). ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry!

Is it possible it could be a UTI? I had the same symptoms a couple of weeks ago (at 30 weeks), it turned out that an infection was causing threatened labour (not uncommon apparently!). I really would go straight in if the same happened again, not only due to the possiblity of an early labour, but also because it really becomes uncomfortable to have a baby bouncing around on an already sore bladder, and can be quite nasty if the infection does head for the kidneys! A course of antibiotics seems to have sorted it all out, and I feel more comfortable than I have in weeks! I hope you are feeling better again soon too.

Dejags, how are you today?
If you are still concerned, go for monitoring. Like Levanna, I had a UTI (at 26 weeks) and they kept me in for 24-hour monitoring and treatment. They took it very seriously as can trigger labour (as Levanna says).
Can't remember if this is your first baby?
Thing is, you must have been worried to post about it....
Let us know how you are, D

Hi Folks,

Well I took the paracetemol and headed to bed. Ended up having the best nights sleep I have had in weeks. I have been putting up with SPD for weeks now and I find it particularly uncomfortable at night - rolling over is agony and wakes me at least 7/8 times a night.

Not sure what was causing the crampy feelings - may be my muscles trying to overcompensate for the SPD?

Thanks for thinking about me...

Glad you're feeling better. Poor you being so sore with SPD. Not too much longer to put up with it now.

I have been getting Braxton Hicks a lot lately - suppose it's the tiem they start in earnest (32 weeks). Don't think I got them with dd though.
