My cat has sliced my nipple.

OK so on accident my cat sort of jumped up and managed to run his nail down my nipple (threw a vest only) and it's left a pretty deep gash on the nipple itself.

It's bloody but not enough to soak on to anything, can just see blood when I inspect it (can open the wound) It is very hot and stingy.

I'm pregnant so my nipple sensitivity is crazy, crazy at the moment so this put me in tears. I shouted so loud the cat himself is scared to come anywhere near me.

What can I do to treat this, and get the pain to ease off a little bit?

I'll definitely try, I'm off work in morning as I have a scan so can't get more time off. Worst timing.

Is there creams I could use in the mean time

Antiseptic wipes (it might sting) then some savlon.

This happened to me. Well it was more of a puncture from a cat talon. I put tea tree oil on it and got a tetanus injection.

I'm not sure if you can do that while you're pregnant though?

Emma2803 · 21/05/2017 11:05

Can you not go to a minor injuries unit? I would if it was me with the risk of the bacteria from cats claw getting into open wound.

planestrains · 21/05/2017 11:20

If you have had the whopping cough vaccination in pregnancy that is usually the vaccination that is combined with tetanus.

More the infection and the risk of toxoplasmosis

OnNaturesCourse · 21/05/2017 15:45

I've not had any injections... 😕

Arbrighton - the whooping cough vaccine is part of a combined vaccination with tetanus, diptheria and polio calles Boostrix IPV. See the NHS website
www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/whooping-cough-vaccination-pregnant.aspx#Which

OP- is your cat and outdoor cat? That can increase the risk of them being a carrier of toxoplasmosis so would get checked out just in case

NanooCov · 21/05/2017 16:34

I'd go to minor injuries just in case.

By the way your time off for antenatal care should be paid - it's a legal obligation on your employer.

Not sure how far along you are but the whooping cough vaccination isn't usually given until between 20 and 32 weeks.

arbrighton · 21/05/2017 16:38

thanks Chelle and oops my error

But OP posts elsewhere about dating scan and repeat tomorrow so nowhere near the date for that to be helpful

OnNaturesCourse · 21/05/2017 17:32

He's a indoor cat.

The time off is paid, but obviously work do ask I minimize the time away as much as possible... So I think it's unfair of me to ask for further time off tomorrow.

I shall keep a eye on it, the pain has gone now so I think I just need to keep it clean. Xx

An indoor cat has the same chance of becoming infected with toxoplasmosis as you do - either of you would have to ingest infected feces or meat that came into the house. I wouldn't be worried in the slightest about that. (Not sure about Tetanus though)

chelle85 · 21/05/2017 20:32

Outdoor cats have more chance of exposure to toxoplasmosis because they hunt and eat all kinds. An indoor cat is really low risk as most cat food will be cooked meat/biscuits which would kill any parasites so I wouldn't worry.

I would just go for the savlon/germolene and keep an eye on it for any sign of infection

OnNaturesCourse · 22/05/2017 12:53

He is a rescue cat which we found abandoned and hurt outside so I don't know his full history but I've had him about 5 years now with no problems. It seems to be OK this morning, I'll just keep a eye on it I think xx
