The fabric yarn is often covered in a chemical to make it easier to weave without pulling and as baby has delicate skin I wanted to avoid this exposure

MrsH128 · 20/05/2017 22:32

oh right, didn't know that, thank you :)

also i'm 32+2 and washed clothes this week to pack hospital bags was it too early to wash them? or does it not matter

I didn't.

I was wondering this. Brand new clothes are always so soft and its hard to get that back once washed...

Eeeeek2 · 21/05/2017 08:30

No not to early, I can't think of a reason that it would matter when you did them. They'll be lots of people that didn't bother but I have a baby with very sensitive skin that is allergic to fairy softener and baby soap so I'm glad I did.

It also gave me something to do once on maternity leave. Though like you I'd done the things for hospital bag at 30 ish weeks

I think there's other stuff - chemical sprays, Lice etc as well. I do everything but tights now as I lobe new tights on

I still wash all my 18 month old's new clothes first Blush And no he's not my PFB.
They say wash before use on the label so I guess there must be a reason?
Chemicals I suppose and and germs picked up along their journey.

I did with both DCs, lovingly hand washed all of DD1 things but with DD2 I just washed everything in one go with one of those free samples of fairy non bio out of the bounty pack, I did everything that will do next to her skin ie: vests, sleepsuits, etc.

MrsH128 · 21/05/2017 09:01

Thanks everyone :)

i also used the free sample out of the bounty pack haha!

I'm planning on washing enough clothes to last a few days, but not the lot. My friend went into super nesting mode, washed and ironed every baby grow and packed them into drawers. Baby then got a ton of gifted clothes and half the size 0-3 months grows never even got worn. She could g return them or exchange for a bigger size as she's taken all the tags off.

I'm trying not to buy too many newborn/0-3 month clothes as I don't know what size the baby will be. So I'll wash some, but keep some brand new so I can return or exchange size if necessary. You can always wash the rest once baby is here (even though it seems sensible to get such a mundane job done in advance)
