Yes, very normal. I didn't realise I was even pregnant in the beginning, even tho I was late, b/c it felt like I was getting my period b/c of the cramps. It goes away after a week or two, don't worry. Just keep an eye out for any spotting or bleeding with the cramps.

lemonaid · 15/03/2007 13:49

Yes, completely. When pregnant with DS I didn't test for ages after my period was late because I felt so crampy I was sure it would arrive at any moment. Get any serious pain checked out, though.

MillyM · 15/03/2007 13:52

Yep, I've had them with this pg and I had them with the last. Midwife told me it was all to do with hormones flooding your body.

mediterraneo · 15/03/2007 14:18

thank you. love mumsnet!

I know this thread is a bit old by now but I hope someone can help! Feel like tempting fate by even being on this thread, but...

got bfp last 3 days testing and have finally accepted it's real! However I've had a few cramps, milder but feeling exactly the same as, period cramps. Is this the kind of thing you were feeling mediterraneo?

I also have a bit of a dodgy tum, as I also do when af is arriving.

No bleeding at all though, so I shouldn't be worrying too much?

Thanks!

scorpio1 · 05/04/2007 17:03

(hi Caz)

Yeah its totally normal

Caz10 · 05/04/2007 17:06

aaaw thanks scorpio! why do docs not tell you this stuff?!!

scorpio1 · 05/04/2007 17:09

coz they are too grumpy, me thinks

SunLover · 06/04/2007 07:04

Hi, I'm now 5ws pregnant and had constant period like cramps (mild, though) up until last weekend. This week I only had them on very few occasions.

Caz10 · 06/04/2007 07:41

Very glad it is not just me. Mine seem to come mostly in the evening/late afternoon, not sure why that would be. Even though I know it seems to be ok I will be very relieved if they ease off!

PolarMummy · 06/04/2007 11:17

Caz10, sounds very similar to me. I didn't test for ages because I had really bad cramps and like everyone else thought AF was on her way, even remember thinking it was going to be really bad because the cramps were bad. No bleeding though. I am now 14wks still get the odd mild cramp but had my scan and everything is fine. So hope this helps.

Caz10 · 06/04/2007 18:45

Thank you all again for reassuring me! Is it possible not to worry constantly for 9 months? I'm thinking not!!

dundeemarmalade · 15/04/2007 01:10

sitting here at quarter to one in the morning, i am sooooo grateful to read these replies! this is my second sleepless and tearful night caused by horribly period-like cramps starting in late evening - no bleeding or anything tho - which means i've been sitting here thinking that i'm about to miscarry. the polish locum i saw (her main piece of advice: "Avoid people with rash") so nonplussed me that i forgot to ask about it when i went to break the good news to doctor, and trying to find any decent advice is next to impossible, it seems. thank insert entity of choice here for sensible, normal, rational mumsnet.

MrsMar · 15/04/2007 09:38

Caz10 and dundeemarmalade - I'm now 17+4 and still getting these pains. They terrify me even though everyone says they're normal, all part of a stretching uterus. Sorry to say they're not an early pregnancy phenomenon for me, hopefully they are for you. Mine are always in the afternoon/evening, usually when I've been at work sitting at a desk for 12 hours. I had a real fright the other day, rang the midwife in tears because I had a really sharp cramp. She was reluctant to diagnose over the phone, she suggested I go to the gynae unit at the hospital where I'm having the baby. I couldn't do that at that time, was miles away without any transport, so I just wanderered around in the sunshine for a bit, pulling myself together, and ten minutes later they had gone. After a long reassuring chat with my mum, I felt much better, as she pointed out if they don't increase in intensity (like contractions) or get closer together, and they are irregular (as mine are) they're probably just stretching pains. I've had them all throughout this pregnancy, before my 12 week scan, which was all fine. It's awful I know but try not to worry (which is more than I can say for myself!!)

Good luck xxx

Hi all

Thanks so much for this thread- have been having the same cramps and no one to ask about it (GP in a hurry to get me out when I went to tell her I was pregnant and not due to see my midwife for another 2 weeks!!).

I wish people would just tell you what's normal - the only thing the doctor gave me was that crappy 'emma's diary' thing.

Am much happier now!

Caz10 · 16/04/2007 21:03

It is scary eh?! Sufi I didn't even get that! Just "I'll send a letter to the hospital for your scan, it'll be roundabout 12 weeks. Don't drink or smoke and avoid bagged salad. Oh..(and this bit was delivered as I was walking out the door)...by the way your due date is 12th Dec".

They are such a help eh?! Looking forward to seeing midwife as everyone says they are much nicer!

My af type cramps have eased off a little, which of course made me worry, but the nausea seemed to really increase at the same time, so I think it must be just a change in what's going on down there?!

hester · 16/04/2007 21:23

I don't know why we're not warned about this. i think early pregnancy feels almost exactly like getting your period, and sometimes the cramps can be quite strong.

Good luck all of you

Debbsyandson · 16/04/2007 21:45

i was never more sure that my period was about to arrive when i found out i was pg,you do get all these sorts of things its your baby getting comfy good luck

dundeemarmalade · 18/04/2007 12:40

caz - no bagged salad? is that for real?
i phoned nhs direct yesterday evening re. af-type cramping and the nice lady told me that it was almost certainly what used to be called 'rooming in pains', which sounds sort of homely, don't you think? feel much reassured by this. i'd recommend anybody who's worried to call nhs direct, especially as most of us haven't been assigned a midwife yet.

lisasteve · 20/04/2007 23:27

Hi, i'm new to the site, looking for a bit of advice from all you lovely ladies out there. Just finished third cycle of clomid 50mg, day 21 progesterone blood test was only 5, suggesting i hadn't ovulated. I'm now on day 32, normally 28 day cycle, getting a bit excited, hoping i'm pregnant!!! Haven't plucked up the courage to test yet, due to period pain type pains!! What do you think??????

Eaglebird · 21/04/2007 14:49

Rooming-in pains: that sounds nice and cosy.
I'm 13+5 weeks and I get the odd twinge. It feels a bit achey, like I've done too many situps. (It can't be due to doing situps, though, as I haven't done any for months).
My twinges always seem to occur when I get up after sitting down or crouching for a while. They last a couple of seconds then fade away. Then I might not get another one for a few days.

fleacircus · 23/04/2007 09:30

I think bagged salad is ok as long as you wash it (even if it says 'washed and ready to eat', wash it again).
