20 week anomaly scan - Fluid on the brain

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and they have asked me to go back for another scan in just over a week as they are concerned about the amount of fluid on the brain. All they would tell me is that the fluid is at the highest level they would consider safe.

We are feeling a little concerned especially now I've read about Hydrocephalus on the internet.

Has anyone else been told this following their 20 week scan?

Zoe

can't help you I'm afraid, but someone will probably come along who can.

I'm sorry that you are going through this worry

You may have come across some pretty terrifying stuff on the internet. Please try to not dwell on it. Hydrocephalus can vary enourmously. It can correct itself of its own accord in some cases. Shunts can be used after birth to drain excess fluid - I know of families where this has been v successful. I wouldn't panic too much at this stage (I know that is easier said than done). You have been told that you are on the upper limit of the safe range and you are been monitored carefully.

I don't have direct experience of this but my dd does have rare chromo disorder so I have come across families dealing with this. I also know of some families from my dd's time at NICU where it has caused only minimal problems with the child's development.

Take care x
