Hi there, I am pg with no.2 and although i have felt movements they are few and far between. I thought I was meant to feel much more 2nd time around. I had a scan on Monday so I think everything is okay, but why can't I feel my baby more?!

I am worrying because I'm almost 17 wks with number 4 and not feeling anything distinct yet.

can depend on the position of the placenta, if it is anterior, it muffles the movement, like feeling the kicks through a cushion..also, at this stage, there is lots of room for the baby, so they can kick towards your back, and not the front of the uterus, so you don;t feel that...

thanks so much. I will try to relax

Hi Claire, I am 20+ weeks with number 3 and have not really felt loads of movements and even when I do its more flutter than kick.

I felt number 1 and 2 much earlier and definate so I guess its just one of those things. Ive had a scan so know everything is ok.
Try not to worry

I've got an anterior placenta which is apparantly more common with 2nd and 3rd pgs.
I didn;t really feel proper distinct movement until 22 0r 23 weeks although I felt something it wasn't much.
Try not to worry, you've just had a scan which everything was ok, go and see your mw to put your mind at rest.

I do know how you feel though. Ive been to labour ward a few times with this pg because I could go for 2 or 3 days before the baby moved and I would start to panic. As soon as I was wired up to the machine the little git kicked.

same here, not feeling much at 20 weeks... few days ago we had a scan and my husband and the sonographer saw our baby paddling! and i still cant feel much. my placenta is anterior so i guess i will just have to wait until baby is much bigger.

Anterior placenta here too. Not felt all that much really. And felt less still the past week, so called into GP who did a quick heartbeat check - very reassuring. She said the reason I'm feeling less now than a couple of weeks back is that not only in baby growing, the placenta is too. Frustrating though, but good to know some others are in the same boat. Makes me feel more normal

Clare123 · 14/03/2007 21:41

What is an anterior placenta? When did they pick that up? Would they see it quite obviously at your 20 wk scan?

anterior/posterior is just the position of the placenta in relation to the uterus.

anterior = front wall
posterior = back wall

as lulumama said, when its anterior it muffles the movement.

Hi Clare, am also prg with no2 (24+6 today) and for both prgs have had anterior placenta. For prg no1 barely felt a thing until 22 weeks, this time it was probably from about 20-21 weeks onwards. 1st prg although movements increased they were always sporadic (sp?) so popped into delivery suite several times for monitoring. This time seems LO busy some days and not others. I think that some babies (beside the anterior muffling) are gentler movers than others, sort of more placid. My DM had three of us and said we were all different - me very placid (she used to jump on the spot to wake me up ) - DB1 moved more and DB2 apparently was a vigourous mover and never kept still.

Think as everyone says (easier said than done as I am a stressy sort of person LOL) try not to worry, your scan was ok -LO will move soon. Good luck
