Telling work??

Good morning!
Had our first scan yesterday and have been dated as 13+2. I can't decide whether to tell my boss sooner or later.
My boss is fairly new (started after I got pregnant) but he has been a wonderful boss so far - very encouraging and supportive and has one on the way himself. I've been working there for 9 years and I would like to give then as much notice as possible. Two things are making me want to wait - first we get paid a bonus at the end of this month and I'd be slightly worried they would not pay me one... second, they are moving us on to new contracts at some point. I haven't seen one yet but my current contract is only SMP so I am hoping the new one is a little more generous! But presume they can't just stop me moving on to it and move everyone else on to it?
Also, I have no idea when I'd like leave to start etc do I need to think about this before I speak to him?
Just after opinions/advice really.
Thank you!

Hi!

I told my boss when I was about 6 weeks before I even had my scan lol. Think it's personally preference. They can't hold back a bonus and contract from you just because you're pregnant. Depending on what sort of job you are in it might be good to let them know from a health and safety point of view? I work in retail and wasn't allowed to pull heavy rails on my own and go up and down ladders (which drove me mad lol) x

Congratulations! I'm 12+5 but I told work pretty much straight away (5 weeks) because I also work in retail and at least they knew then why I had appointments and so I'm allowed a bottle of water or sweets to suck on if need be. You're entitled to more breaks as well and they can change your job slightly to make it easier for you! If you have a great manager I'd personally say tell him but you don't have to tell anyone else in work if you don't want (:

Thank you for your replies. I ended up telling my boss yesterday and he was brilliant - as I had expected Smile

That's lovely news!

I told my bosses at (what I thought was) 6wks (but turned out to be at 4+5wks) because I needed time off for early scans etc. and didn't want them yo think I was secretly applying for jobs and sneaking off to interviews with all these mystery doctor appointments!
