So I don't really tend to post on forums as I never seem to get a response but I'm really worried so please advise if you can it would be hugely appreciated!

Sorry in advance for the long post..

I'm 27+1 this is my 2nd pregnancy and have had pain throughout. At 7 weeks I was sent for an early scan for an ectopic pregnancy but was all fine and was told growing pains. Kept having the pain so back to GP in March who took swabs and sent me to the hospital again for further tests. I was told again baby was fine and it's just growing pains, paracetamol and rest.. Again last month the GP told me I just have to "Deal with the pain" and get on with it Then all this week I was having horrible pain in my lower abdomen, back, down my legs etc so went back to the GP with a urine sample thinking I had a UTI ( GP also suspected this ) nothing showed up for infection but I had blood in my urine so again I was sent to the hospital for further tests but this time I was sent to delivery assessment. They tested my urine again but there was no blood in the sample so they diagnosed muscle tearing and SPD or Pelvic girdle pain. When she checked my records she asked me if I'd been treated for bacterial vaginosis back in March from the swabs I'd had done but despite seeing my GP twice and midwife since then nobody had even mentioned it let alone treated it! So I was sent home with strong painkillers, anti biotics and a scan date for wednesday because baby is measuring 4 weeks smaller than he should be. I was happy with the diagnosis as it all made sense but today I've been having awful pain, it literally feels like horrific period pain to the point I'm checking for blood every time I go to the toilet. So I was having a nose on trusty old Google and came across a post about how untreated bv can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, I researched it and in fact it sounds very much like what I've been suffering with. Now I've read that it can be dangerous in pregnancy so I'm going to see my GP again tomorrow to see what she thinks. I'm not self diagnosing or being a hypochondriac but I'm now really worried that it may be that and all the articles I've read have said I'd need to be admitted on anti biotics.

So my question really is has anyone had any experience with SPD or PID in pregnancy that I could compare with? And what do you think I should do? Also people's opinions on having blood in the one sample and not in the other? I know my body and know that something just isn't adding up, with the pain getting worse and worse this evening I'm really starting to panic. I don't want to contact anyone tonight because they're going to think I'm nuts but I really am in pain and looking for reassurance. I guess I don't really trust them after being thrown from pillar to post!

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it's just a kick up the bum to stop worrying so much!

x

Flowers for you, sounds like a tough time. Pregnancy is a roller coaster at the best of times.

I had SPD which became quite severe towards the end of my pregnancy. I was on crutches and then more or less bed/sofa bound for the final couple of weeks. It didn't feel like period pain and I didn't experience any pain in my abdomen. It was all in my hips and pelvis. Difficult to explain really but sort of a grinding pain and very uncomfortable to lie on my sides. I would get very sharp pains in my pelvis if I made certain movements, like moving my legs apart. Mobility was a huge issue. I could barely walk at times and needed help getting in and out of the shower, had to go up stairs on hands and knees etc.

Can't help with a direct comparison myself as I've never had BV but the above is my experience of SPD. I hope your GP appointment goes well and you get sorted.

It is quite rare to get PID in pregnancy as the mucus plug stops infection travelling up into the pelvis. BV can cause PID, but rarely, it is usually chlamydia that is the most common culprit.

It seems it could al be spd related

But if the pain is worsening please go back to a doc/mw.

SPD is very distinctive; it's in the very front centre of your pelvis and is nothing like period pains. You can hardly move your legs apart at all and have to shuffle rather than walk. Turning over in bed is incredibly painful/impossible. So it doesn't sound at all like SPD to me.

Hope this helps Smile

Hope you get some answers. My pgp started as sciatic pains going from my bum to my back but went on to full pelvic pain, particularly in the front of my pelvis (the symphis pubis) which would clunk and crack and be generally painful. The term SPD was changed to PGP as it doesn't just affect the symphis pubis but the full pelvis and attached ligaments, nerves, joints etc.
As pp has stated, seems unlikely to be PID but do get checked x

Thank you all so so much for your replies I really appreciate it!

I had my growth scan today and baby is still measuring a little small but he's on the lines on the graph so nothing to worry about. Will be having another one in 2 weeks :)

I definitely have SPD the pain after walking around today is horrific. As for the period pain it's still there with a lot of pressure which is making me go to the toilet a lot but nobody seems concerned I just keep hitting dead ends! I have an appointment with my MW next week so going to hold on until then unless it gets worse and demand some answers x

What position is your baby in? I get a lot of pressure pain when baby is head down with head against my pelvis - he likes to sit like this and has done it on and off since start of 2nd tri. It feels like constant pressure and if I cough or sneeze feels like he will pop out Shock

I also have spd, but that is a different sort of pelvic pain as others have already described. The internal pressure pain is only when he is in that position, the spd is constant.

Sorry when I said head against my pelvis i meant head against my cervix!!
