They've been really itchy for weeks now especially my right nipple and just underneath it

I'm quite itchy elswhere too and i've got exczema on my elbows.

I'm 32 weeks and it's my 3rd baby and i don't recall having anything else like this before.

I'd forgotten till you mentioned it, but that happened to me with dd2. Not the other two though.

LilyLoo · 13/03/2007 21:26

Remember difficulty of itching them discreetly only with my DD not DS .

megandsoph · 13/03/2007 21:29

I have this too & i'm also 3rd PG. Am 29 weeks and have been having these scratchy moments for about 5 weeks. sometimes enough where I just have to whipp them out and have a good scratch. Will ask MW about it tomorrow.

sheepgomeep · 13/03/2007 21:36

thanks for replying! I know what you mean about having a good scratch lol. sometimes its unbearable, i literally have to whip my bra off and have a good scratch but there is nothing there.

Hi sheepgomeep -

(did flamesparrow find you? She was looking last night to make sure you were OK )

About the itching, I raised this on a recent thread as I'm having problems with unbearable itching all over (though I'm only 18.4wks at the mo). Anyway one MNer pointed out that I ought to get checked out for something called Obstetric Cholestatis which is something that usually doesn't occur until later on in pg. It's something that does need to be treated, if it proved to be the case, and whilst I really don't want to sound alarmist, please call your midwife about it to see what she says.

I truly hope it turns out to be nothing but would rather pass on the wisdom of others if can keep you and baby happy & healthy

pollypeachum · 13/03/2007 21:44

3rd trimester with twins i had pretty much unbearable itching all over, except in the "danger zone" places which if i remember correctly (but please don't take my word for it, get it checked) were hands and feet. i remember sitting up in the middle of the night trying to daub my back with camomile lotion/scratching until my skin bled.
as soon as they were born, it stopped, like a switch had been thrown, quite literally.
i've always wondered why, because they were a planned caesarian, so its not as if my body produced anti-itching hormones during labour or anything. can only conclude i was allergic to the little loves.

prawnsmum · 13/03/2007 21:55

willywonka sounds like you might have had something called PUPP (for short) you can google it. I had it during the last 4 weeks of my pregnancy and it was HELL!!!! Started a thread about it the other day as im still suffering!! MW told me it was something to do with the babies hormones I was having a boy and apparently you are more at risk from it as the male hormones don't agree with the female hormones! (although you can get it if your carrying a girl its just more common in boys) Men trouble even before their born

willywonka · 13/03/2007 22:02

Thanks for the postings. Am being checked for OC as there's a bit of history meaning that they want to eliminate it but I'll certainly look into PUPP (if only because I love the name!)

prawnsmum · 13/03/2007 22:09

Fingers crossed everything's ok for you WW The proper name is- Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy so PUPPPS for short

willywonka · 13/03/2007 22:14

Prefer the acronym - more appropriate with my humungous pg-only (.)(.)'s

doggus · 14/03/2007 00:27

I too suffer from itchy breasts, nowhere else really itches so I don't think I have PUPP. Mine started from Week 10 or so (am now Week 26). It is unbearable, I keep leaving harsh red welts. The worst is when you are in a supermarket queue, I forget where I am, and start rubbing my nipples fantically!

Hopeitwontbebig · 14/03/2007 09:29

Yes I get it too, I think with me it might be something to do with the skin stretching, I get it across my hip bones too. I've been moisturising loads, but I still end up with dry skin in the 'stretched' areas . I didn't have this with my other two children, maybe it's because my skin's a bit older now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck with docs.

sheepgomeep · 14/03/2007 20:26

just found this thread again and many thanks for all the replies. I'm going to definetly ask my mw about the puppps now just to rule it out.

willywonka I didn't know flamesparrow was looking for me, I'll put a post on for her. thanks

Oh nooooooooooooooo, you just reminded me that I have that to come if my last pregnancy is anything to go by. I forgot the unbearable itchy nip syndrome!

doggus · 14/03/2007 21:10

PMSL at 'itchy nip syndrome', my new medical term for my problem!

sheepgomeep · 14/03/2007 21:19

'itchy nip syndrome' lol i really like that

seriously i am so glad its not just me that has this problem

I'm glad i'm not the only sufferer. Since getting pregnant again sometimes i have to cross my arms to stop from itching. Or lately they ache asked the bf to massage them only to realise what i'd asked him to do, no wonder he looked at me as if i'd gone nuts.

phdlife · 15/03/2007 13:51

glad to hear others have it only on one side too - if mine keeps up I'm likely to be down a nipple before LO arrives! Have recently discovered joy of shoving damp hanky in bra, hauling it out from time to time to cool down. Of course being at home makes it easy!
