Baths

I'm 25+4 and went for a longish walk today with friends, about an hour and half. Do have some back and pelvic problems so my mum suggested having a bath this evening.

What a mission!!! My bump and boobs wouldn't go under the water so I ended up quite cold. The bath must be fairly shallow (I'm in a new build and don't think I've used the bath yet, maybe once) So I decided to get out after 5 minutes but then couldn't get up from the sitting position. Had to roll in the bath on to my all fours to get out that way!! I'm now more exhausted than before I had the bath. Not exactly relaxing!

Is this normal?! To find having a bath so difficult?!

Needless to say I won't be having any more baths until baby is here!

That would be a yes from me.... I had the bright idea to take mw advice and get in the bath during labour.

Trying to get out with contractions was marvellous fun Hmm

And my massive 40+6 belly woudn't get anywhere near the water anyway!

People kept telling me a bath would be relaxing. Had same issue where couldn't get warm, couldn't get comfy then my husband had to come rescue me as I couldn't get out! X

Yep. I love a bath, not looking forward to the point where I have to make sure my OH is in the house in case I get stuck...

Fragglez · 06/05/2017 22:21

Oh, and because of the no above 37 degrees guidelines if you are going to have a long bath it's sodding freezing within about 20 seconds anyway and absolutely no use for soothing sore muscles or cramps.

I ended up sitting in the bath with the plug in and using the shower head to sort of hose myself all over. At least i could aim it where i wanted the warmness then!

Can't say I agree. To be fair it got a lot less graceful entering and exiting towards the end, but I was still enjoying baths right up until my waters popped in one in early labour.

I did the whole 'have a bath during labour' thing....dumbest idea ever! Had to have help getting in and out, wasn't worth it all and the water didn't cover my bump enough to make any difference to the pain. What DID help was putting the hot shower water on my bump, I did that at home and at the hospital. The epidural was the only thing that actually got me through though....sod the planned water birth!

Tape up the overflow so you can fill it right to the top! SmileSmile

When I was 39 weeks with first DD I somehow managed to fall out of the bath after standing up in it Blush luckily I fell straight onto my back and not my side or my bump, smacked the back of my head pretty hard on the floor but if I'd fallen at a different angle I would have smacked my head on the sink. DH came home from walking the dog to find me crying on the stairs.

So now we have a non slip bath mat

My hips would have given up long ago if I didn't have baths. I love them! Also found it helped in early labour, although I did need quite a lot of help to get in and out.

I do have it hotter than you're meant to so having bump/boobs out doesn't bother me - I read that the risks were really minimal and the benefits so obvious that I decided it was worth it.

Yep baths are a struggle for me also! I have to roll on all fours to be able o lift myself up. I end up in here for 15 mins max before I'm either having a hot flush or getting cold. I though I'd have a bath with my 3 year old dd the other night whilst dh was working late shift, actually thought I was showing to be stuck as I couldn't get into all fours as dd was in bath too and no room and didn't want to have to put my bum in her face! I ended up getting her to stand up as far away from me as possible so I could maneuver. Happy to say I won't be doing that again whilst pregnant!!

CabbagePatchKid91 · 07/05/2017 21:03

I had a bath at 2am when I was in early labour. Never even liked baths but lived in them during pregnancy felt like a goldfish

Wonderflonium · 07/05/2017 21:06

The midwife put a wet muslin cloth in with me to cover up the bits above the water and kept it warm with bath water, when I was in labour. But it's probably not worth it, with all the effort you need just to get out.

JonSnowsWhore · 07/05/2017 21:09

YES!! So glad someone else has said this 😂 my last pleasure in life before this baby is born, has now been taken away, because I can't haul my heavy arse & bump up & out anymore!
