Mat notes

I've just had my booking appointment and the midwife recommends I carry my notes from now which feels a bit weird to be honest because I'm only 8 weeks according to her wheel thingy.
Last time I had to carry them after 20 weeks but not before.
What is the general concensus regarding notes?

I've kept mine in my handbag as I've had to make a few unplanned trips to the hospital at various stages - lack of movement, bang to the belly and not everything is on the electronic system, so it's been quite handy for the staff and for me.

OdinsLoveChild · 06/05/2017 11:38

I never bothered with carrying notes unless I was going to an appointment but that was donkeys years ago. I did wear a medic bracelet though. Are you high risk? If you are then that may be why.

Emma2803 · 06/05/2017 11:44

I just left them in the car as wherever I would be I'd have the car with me. I didn't get them until 17 weeks though.

confusedat23 · 06/05/2017 11:57

I have carried mine daily from booking in... it just doesn't cause me any problems and i would rather have them incase anything happens than not.

AGnu · 06/05/2017 12:05

It's never occurred to me to carry them around all the time until I get to the point of keeping a hospital bag in the car. The exception being when I travel a bit further away from home. I'll be 14 weeks this time when we go away & will take my notes with me then.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 06/05/2017 12:07

I kept my notes in my car/handbag unless not practical in which case I had a photo of the important pages on my phone. Useful for tracking bp etc.

tootsieglitterballs · 06/05/2017 12:11

Honestly... I chucked mine on the sideboard when I got them 3 weeks ago and they are now under a pile of stuff . Only 11 weeks, but will of course get them out for my scan, and then probably forget to take them out of my handbag so they will then stay with me for the rest of pregnancy!

vfoster · 06/05/2017 12:16

I'm 30 weeks and no one has told me to carry them around. Didn't even think of it!
I'm taking them on holiday in 2 weeks but not I don't think I'd take them to work or out for the day. Can't remember anyone telling me to carry them in my first pregnancy either. Mine live in the sideboard too!

Hollyhop17 · 06/05/2017 12:18

My midwife told me to carry them from 25 weeks which is what I have done
29 now and they go everywhere I go. I have had a few complications though, so probably more cautious than others.

KWebs · 06/05/2017 12:33

Hmm I was meant to get mine at 12 weeks but needed different paperwork so didn't get them til 16 I think. I was told to keep them on me at all times, example/reason given was "in case you collapse, the notes will tell emergency services you're pregnant". They just live in my handbag though, they're fairly thin still so aren't too much of an imposition.

Bringmesunshite · 06/05/2017 12:34

Take them with you. Why the Hmm?

willothewisp17 · 06/05/2017 12:41

I don't have any maternity notes, apparently just as I fell pregnant they changed the system from handheld notes to online Hmm

Hollyhop17 · 06/05/2017 12:53

Thats interesting. How far along are you Willo?

Topsyloulou · 06/05/2017 13:12

No paper notes here either, everything is done electronically. Just been asked to take the summary of my last scan to any appointments I have to attend but that's it.

With DS I had paper notes & they lived in a black folder on the back seat of my car so I always had them with me if needed. I do a lot of travelling with work & always carried the paper notes with me if I was travelling alone. Not sure what I'll do this time. We're also going abroad for the weekend when I'm 28 weeks & would prefer to have something to take with me just I case.

willothewisp17 · 06/05/2017 13:13

almost 28 weeks, there is a way of getting into them online but I need some sort of a password, but I've never been given one! I see the midwife next week so I'll be asking as I'd like to actually see my notes!

NotEvenListening · 06/05/2017 13:16

I'm 32 weeks and only take mine to appointments. I never really venture far from home so I could easily have access to them if I need them. My midwife has never mentioned carrying them around with me.

babyhamish · 06/05/2017 13:20

Depends on the area as to whether you have online notes. Only done in some areas apparently. I have online notes but growth chart is still paper and I haven't taken it anywhere just took pics on my phone.

Lolabee · 06/05/2017 13:20

Dunno why. It's a recommended thing apparently but I am low risk and won't be carrying them for a while. At least until 12 weeks have passed

I had 4 pregnancies and never carried them around just lived in kitchen cupboard and taken to appointments/labour wars with me

Oysterbabe · 06/05/2017 13:56

I didn't carry mine around until near the end last time and won't this time. I don't live far from the hospital and would get DH to bring them if necessary.

LikeaSnowflake · 06/05/2017 14:06

I don't carry mine around with me, although they did live in the pocket at the back of the car seat for a while because it was convenient.

I'm 37+3...should probably go and put my hospital bag into the car too 😬 (packed, just not in car)

MSH2010 · 06/05/2017 20:51

Mine live in my car.
