Low PAPP-A

Hi I wondered if anyone had any advise relating to low PAPP-A. Mine is 0.31 MOM which is well below the minimum of 0.5 MOM

I am still low risk for Chromosomal Stuff so not worried about that but just really worried about what i have read regarding Preterm Labour and high risk of Still birth.

Hi 0 just to update that DD arrived safe and well 3 days ago! Rhw low PAPP-A didn't seem to affect my oregnancy at all - I consistently measured 1-2 week ahead for both fundal measurements and on growth scans, and DD was ultimately 10 days late and weighed a healthy 8lb on her arrival. I also didn"t develop any signs of pre-eclampsia at any point.

Wishing you all luck with the remainder of your pregnancies!

(Sorry for typos - typing one-handed whilst DD sleeps in my other arm!)

How are you doing @confusedat23 ?

Mags2017 · 06/02/2018 11:18

My PAPP A was 0.37MOM but I gave birth to a healthy son in July last year. He was born at 38 +5 and weighed 3.2kg. I was induced because I thought he wasn't as active as he should be and my contractions started earlier that day. He got very active when they connected me to the monitor but they decided to err on the side of caution and induce me anyway. I had spent weeks researching low papp a and driving myself and my husband insane. Just because you have low papp a doesn't mean your child's not going to be healthy or you're going to go into labour before full term i.e. 37 weeks. The risk of complications is increased but it's still a VERY LOW risk. Stop torturing yourself, stop googling it anymore. RELAX! Try to enjoy your pregnancy and good luck with the labour. :-)

oh, one more thing. Always pay attention to your baby's movements, low papp a or not. If in doubt, get it checked.

Ashchinna · 04/12/2019 12:11

Hi... everyone.. after two years im following this thread.. at my 12 weeks blood test, im identified wit low papp a level of 0.35. DS risk at low... but im afraid of complications in pregnancy.. @confusedat23 im exactly seeing me in ur post.. can yo kindly reply abt ur pregnancy...?

Aneley · 04/12/2019 15:50

My PAPP-A was also low - 0.36, Down risk high (NIPT told us otherwise). Currently 38w and baby measuring normal - not too big, not small either.

@Ashchinna Hey hun!

Ok so... where to start. First thing is I can only talk about my experience personally so if you are truly worried even after reading this then please speak to your midwifery team.

I have a healthy happy 2 year old! So that's always a positive way to start this lol. In all seriousness I had an OK pregnancy, I had regular growth scans and they checked all the blood pressure through the placenta etc and all were fine. I was induced early in the end due to several episodes of reduced movements, I had an interesting induction but that's not related to the Low Papp-a.

All trusts seem to treat this differently but they will all have guidelines, I believe I wasn't allowed to go over 41 weeks and some places you cannot go over 40 weeks but I had nothing like the horror stories you hear about. I was already in slow labour when induced at 38+5 so maybe early labour was related? Not sure

There are definitely things you can do to help, look after yourself and eat correctly, keep stress low and just be on the ball with movements etc.

My blood pressure is naturally very low so I reached borderline for high (139 over something) and they wouldn't do anything but I had classic signs of PE. However being induced it probably wasn't a massive problem anyway.

I'm sorry I can't provide much more help than that, just rest assured that Low Papp-A shouldn't make you scared or anxious just be very aware that you could have these issues so stay vigilant as any pregnant women should be anyway.

I wish you a happy and healthy pregnancy! Please update this thread when you can and let us know, maybe if you have specific questions I could answer those? (Baby brain never disappears btw) lol
Xxx

I had lots papp-a with my first, 0.4. He was born at 32 weeks by ELSCS, I had placental abruption, a blood clot on the placenta & he was also wrapped up in his cord. I am currently 31 weeks with dc2 & have been placed on baby aspirin & 3 weekly growth scans. My levels are 0.2 this time. Guess I was one of those unlucky mums who did experience problems with low papp-a Sad

Shellchar · 15/02/2020 07:32

Low* not lots!

Soon2bemum2017 · 15/02/2020 08:39

I'm really sorry to hear that @Shellchar love to you Flowers

That's amazing that you have made it to 31 weeks this time! You keep going strong mumma!

Yes though you do highlight in your post the worst side of low Papp-a but I wanted to show the difference between your level of low Papp-a and the higher level of the scale of low Papp-a.

augbaby2021 · 13/02/2021 17:10

A second baby boy boy born at 39 weeks, right in the middle of the first lockdown! No problems whatsoever this time around x

MimiDaisy11 · 13/02/2021 18:21

I get that this is an old post but I don't think stating that there's a high risk of stillbirth is accurate. Perhaps the OP just means a higher risk than normal. All the information I have seen is that there's an increased risk of a small baby and earlier delivery but that most births are normal.

The NHS leaflet I have states: "Most babies born to women with a low PAPP-A will have a normal weight at birth and be born at the expected time. Low Papp-A isn’t uncommon"

DizzyNorthernBird · 13/02/2021 20:32

The remainder of my pregnancy was fine and DS was born at 10 days past my due date. I was induced but this was due to premature rupture of membranes. Then I ended up with an emergency section but that was due to him being in a funny position! He's now 3.5 yrs old, totally healthy and a ball of energy!!

Since then I've had another healthy boy who is now 13 months old. I also had low papp-a with him so went through the exact same things during pregnancy!!

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I’ve currently found out my PAPP A is 0.29 and I’m freaking out! Everything else is fine but I’m really anxious as I’ve read loads of stuff online. Thank you for saying that your consultant said this number is more of a grey area, that is reassuring! Hope you’re happy and well x
