How many had hyperemesis with every pregnancy they had?

Just found out I'm pregnant again, 8 weeks in and my sickness is awful. My first pregnancy I was sick all day every day from week 7 until week 42 when my ds decided it was enough torture for mummy.

My question is how many had awful morning sickness the first time to go onto having a less sick 2nd pregnancy or vice Versa?

Oh and what helped? iv gone a bit crazy with the natural remedies this time in hope to avoid hospitals, drips and antisickness meds this time.

I had severe hg the first time and horrific hg the second time. Nothing helped me, ondansetron and IV meant temporary relief.

Hey there is a hyperemesis support thread, which can probably give you some good answers. Im on my first HG pregnancy and definitely my last... I dont want to alarm you, but most of the ladies on the thread have had it all pregnancies. Good luck.

Rocket1982 · 04/05/2017 14:18

Had it both times. Unmedicated the first time, but second time omeprazole helped me immensely.

Are you adverse to taking medication? I've seen little evidence of women having success with natural remedies, most end up on medication - and even then symptoms normally persist though are lessened. I'm on both odansetron and promethazine and still suffer nausea and vomiting. While it's not impossible to have a different pregnancy, it's very common for HG to reoccur in subsequent pregnancies - especially as you've already started being sick again Sad I'd urge speaking to your GP as soon as possible as early intervention may help keep symptoms under control and hopefully avoid hospitals. As Holly said, there's a HG support thread. Feel free to come and join us Smile

2 pregnancies and I had it from 6 weeks until delivery both times. First time was the worst with multiple hospital admissions for dehydration. Weekly hospital appts because of the amount of weight I was losing. Second time around we medicated very early and although it was bad, it wasn't the sheer horror of the first time. It stopped me having a third though, I simply couldn't go through it again.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 04/05/2017 14:31

I had it mildish the first time and horrific the second. By 5 weeks pregnant I was already in hospital. Literally the only thing that helped was being on an i.v and that saw me through for around 3 days and then I was sick 30 ish times a day again. I was on cyclizine but I have an allergy so they changed it to ondensetron and metaclopramide together but that only worked for a few days also. I've heard tinned peach juice helps and cheap ice cream though. There is a hyperemesis support thread which is gold dust. Best wishes for your pregnancy Flowers

Just coming to offer some hope. I was never hospitalised with #1 but was vomiting 20/30 times a day and prescribed medication.

#2 had nausea, but only vomited once a week. I took magnesium and B6 so don't know if that helped.

Now 7 weeks with #3 and feel very nauseous but only been sick 3 or 4 times. FX it stays like this!

Not adverse to medication. I was just hoping that I'd get enough relief to manage it. Yeah this will be my last for sure as I don't know how I'm going to cope with a 2yr old and the constant vomiting. I was hoping for lots of good news but did think it was unlikely.

I'm on seven seas multi vit for pregnancy that has B6 in it, can I take extra B6 or is that dangerous?

I think I will because it's bloody awful and I really had to work hard to convince my drs how ill I was to start with even though I wasn't gaining weight. My first midwife app is not until the 17th which makes me 10 weeks this is likely too late, right?

HG with first two, normal morning sickness with third. Can't risk a 4th..

pauseplayrepeat · 04/05/2017 15:50

Horrendous with 1st, medication from conception with 2nd and managed to avoid IVs and hospital but was still pretty awful. Now almost 10 weeks with DC3, on meds again and nowhere near as bad as the first two pregnancies. Get support from your GP and the lovely people on the HG support thread on here.

I know this comment was years ago but did you HG every come back with your third ? 🙏🏻

Pygmyseahorse · 06/06/2020 21:53

I feel for you

Had severe HG with dd, hospitalisations etc. Sick as a dog all day and night from about 6 to 38 weeks when I had her

This time it started at 4 and a half weeks, much more wretching but been on meds since week 5.12 now and it's got worse

It's v hard with a toddler I won't lie, there's been a lot of TV and quiet playing or having water play in the sink or bath and door open for garden
Shes also been asking why I'm sick and copying noises which isn't great!

Hopefully yours won't last too long but definitely get some meds.
The HG thread on here is great support
I also found pregnancy vitamins made it worse and found seperate folic acid easier to stomach

FilthyforFirth · 06/06/2020 22:06

I've name changed but one of the initial responders on this thread. I am pregnant again and the HG is more severe this time. The stats are 80% likely to have it again in subsequent pregnancies but I am fully immersed in the HG world and I sadly dont know a single person who hasnt had it everytime.

DH will be getting a vasectomy as this time I truly an done. Doing it with a toddler is hell on earth.
