Just fell over

Just tripped over a step. I fell into a room and landed on flat soft carpet. I sort of fell on my side and hit under my ribs. I'm only 18 weeks so baby should still be quite low. I haven't really hurt myself, I have a light red mark but don't think it'll bruise. As I don't think I asked the baby, is it ok or should I cal my midwife? I feel like it's probably nothing and don't want to make a fuss.

Hi lemon I would pop in and just get checked over. I'm sure it's absolutely fine but you should definitely go to be on the safe side. Better to fuss over nothing that sit and fret.

fishfingerSarnies · 03/05/2017 11:48

I wouldn't worry if it was me at, baby's are very well protected. However if you're worrying and it's going to give you anxiety give someone a call.

Hollyhop17 · 03/05/2017 11:49

I'd ring Lemon. I got a little bruise from bumping my bump into a trolley a few weeks ago and spoke to my midwife. She dealt with it on the phone, just asked me a few questions. It was all fine.

Lemondrop09 · 03/05/2017 11:59

Thanks all. I've called the midwife and left a message. Problem is her voicemail says she turns her phone off when she's not working, so its not clear if she's not in work or is just busy Hmm I'm assuming because it rang before going to voicemail that it's ok but she's just busy. If she doesn't call back in a couple of hours, I'll try a general phone number.

That sounds scary - I hope you're not too sore.

You really need to be seen at the antenatal clinic. Do you know your blood group - they should have a record from your initial booking bloods? If you are rhesus negative you will need anti-D within 72 hours of the bump.

Lemondrop09 · 03/05/2017 12:23

I think I'm rhesus positive. I'm getting some very light twinges on the side I fell which is unusual.

No midwife is going to condemn you for getting checked out - you aren't wasting their time. This is coming from someone who groans about NHS time wasters. Give them another call - you should be able to speak to someone at least for advice.

Lemondrop09 · 03/05/2017 12:41

Midwife called me back, said it was probably fine but recommended I pop into triage to be checked. Just on my way now.

I hope all goes well and you get reassured :) Take a book...

HellsBellsK · 03/05/2017 12:44

I feel on my bump around 17 weeks. I rang the hospital and the mid wife went through some questions with me, am I in pain, am bleeding, Rhesus negative etc. She said I was more then welcome to come in and they would never say not to but she thought I would be okay that baby is well padded.
Told me to relax for awhile but if anything feels different to go in. I was okay in the end, think it was more so of a shock to be honest. x

Lemondrop09 · 03/05/2017 13:40

Thanks everyone. Well aside from having to tell about five people that I was over 18 weeks (they reeeeeeally didn't want to see anyone under 18 weeks), all was fine. The staff were very sweet and said if I have any concerns not to hesitate to go in. Heard the heartbeat, although kept losing it as baby is super wriggly! It only took about 10 minutes of their time and I'm feeling a lot better, so glad I went in.

HellsBellsK - if you are rh neg and bleeding/had a trauma they must see you. It is important to have anti-D (and if you are over 20 weeks a test to establish if enough has been given) or any future pregnancies could be severely affected. If you find out you have developed anti-D please tell the medic/midwife about not being seen as it is a reportable event for the NHS.
