When did you tell work?

When did you tell work? I'm currently what they think 13 weeks. I have my 12 week scan on Thursday to determine how French along I am. I'm wondering when to tell work, my belly is definitely becoming rather rounded(is this bloat?) I'm going on holiday Sunday for two weeks. I'm worried if I come back the 'bump' might be even more noticeable!! Do you think I should tell them before I go?

You can stop life for work. I hired someone new in my team in September and in December she told me she was pregnant. As a manager you can't but be supportive and the more prepared you make them, the more organised they can be for organising a suitable replacement. Good luck and I'm sure all will be fine. X

I told work at 5 weeks as I'm a police officer and had to be placed on restricted duties. Even if I wasn't I'd have struggled to hide it due to horrendous morning sickness which had me in the toilet the majority of the day.

Jcf thank you. I just worry they really will not be happy!! Even though everyone's lovely to me but a buisness is a buisness. I think I'm going to tell them when I'm 12weeks after my next scan as I'm on holiday Sunday for 11 nights c

After my scan (so I knew I had a viable pregnancy), but immediately after as I knew they'd have to hire someone to cover me, and wanted to make things as easy as possible for them - I have a good relationship with management, and want to keep it that way. In turn, they were very flexible when I returned to work, and I was able to do a good handover with the person covering for me.

This is something that really worries me, if I get pregnant it's going to be a miracle, but where I work you have to inform them instantly (risk assessment, carcinogenic drugs and radiography etc)
I worry that something will go wrong, after trying so hard - and no one in this building can keep a secret to save themselves. But I'm a worry wart.
I would tell them when you're ready, and be prepared for more people than you expect or tell, to know too!

Congratulations OP Flowers

I've always worked in laboratories so it's always been tell occupational health / management as soon as you know yourself so they can carry out a risk assessment. I didn't realise till fairly recently that this wan't the case generally as some of the risks are present in most jobs (manual handling for example). They should keep it totally confidential. I had several miscarriages and they already knew I was pregnant and handled everything really sensitively, it would have been worse having to tell them at the time the mc occurred. This was in a company not known for handling anything sensitively BTW.

I told mine at 6 weeks! I took a new job and found out a few weeks in that I was pregnant. Wanted but big surprise. I ten became very sick very quickly - had to phone my brand new boss, just 5 weeks into the job, and say not only was a I pregnant but I'd been signed off!!! I was off for nearly 5 weeks, still only able to manage working from home and still having to take intermittent sick days. Very embarrassing and I felt very guilty, but I didn't expect to get pregnant right then and I certainly didn't expect to get HG. Luckily my manager has been very kind but it's not how I wanted my job to start.

I haven't told them yet as I'm just barely pregnant. I am booked for a scan next week and will likely tell my manager after the results, as if it is ectopic or anther miscarriage I will need more time off. If everything is alright I will wait a bit longer. I will likely take a sick day for this first scan.

I've always wondered how you can hide the morning sickness for the first few weeks in work? I'm not pregnant just yet (although we are TTC so hopefully soon Smile ) and I'm just curious as to how people deal with that if they don't want to give the game away too soon! I work in an office and sit very close to my boss so could imagine he would notice me running up and down to the toilet more often than usual Blush

MrsBobDylan · 05/05/2017 17:44

First three dc I waited until after the 12 week scan, fourth pregnancy I had a mmc at 10 weeks so told work because I needed time off for the medical management and I didn't want it to go on my sick record. This time I'm waiting until after the 12 week scan but I haven't a clue why because if anything happened, I'd tell them again. Go figureConfused.

I never had morning sickness. Until I told people they'd have had no idea - aside from the growing belly I had going on. I had a pretty noticeable bump by 16 weeks
