Carseats and hospitals

So we've decided upon a fitted car seat for our four door car. It rotates so it'll make life easier... But... I've heard baby must be in a hand held car seat to leave the hospital? Does this mean I'm going to have to buy another seat!? Can't I use the carrycot from our pram to leave and then put baby in the seat?

Unfortunately I can't comfortably sit in the back and DP has no chance.

We own a mini, DP is 6ft+ and I'm 5'10 .

We previously had a stage 0-3+ car seat in the back for a close family member and managed to work with it so I have some hope that we'll manage.... Fingers crossed lol.

When I had DD only a few women on my ward took the babies away in a car seat, buggies weren't an option as the ward was up loads of stairs but I saw two ladies with slings. We had a car seat for DD but it was never checked or mentioned, but I discharged us myself so maybe they thought better of challenging me, my mum and DP on the car seat front!

I'm convinced there's no way they can stop you from leaving if you have a safe method of transportation home.

And if you didn't, I still doubt they'd stop you leaving. More likely just phone up the community midwives / HV and tell them you are engaging in risky behaviour with the child.

A car seat suitable from birth is a safe method of transportation, fixed to the car or not. It would be ridiculous for them to object to your seat.
