Will the midwife contact me or do I need to contact her? I haven't spoken to her in 3 months.

Did you have a 20 week scan?

You normally have to book appointments. It should say when you should be seeing midwife/doctor etc in your blue book? (That's what it's like where I live anyway) x

Generally you book your own midwife appointments in most areas

Northgate · 01/05/2017 04:54

In all my pregnancies, with the exception of the booking in appointment, the midwife appointments were made by the midwife at the end of the previous appointment.

If there was a reason why the midwife couldn't do this (e.g. booking system down), she'd put the appointment date in the handheld notes and tell me to call the receptionist later and get an appointment made for that date.

So I'd call reception at your GP practice or wherever you see your midwife and ask them about appointments if one isn't made yet.

Oh I found it, it's says I should have a app at 25 weeks but no date etc I'll call them this week, I guess it depends where you are :)

Generally you have to book your own antenatal appointments. I always ring and book my stuff appointment after the previous one as I'm bound to forget! 🙈
Also the community midwives only visit my gp surgery once a week so I like to book in early in case they're busy and I can't get in on time!

kizzle · 02/05/2017 08:06

That meant to say 'next' appointment. Not 'stuff' 😒. Early morning spell check fail.

PirateQueenie · 02/05/2017 08:11

Hmmm did you not have an appt after the 20 weeks scan?? You should have had one at 21 weeks AND 24/25, every 3 weeks for the rest of the pregnancy. Mine agrees my next appt at each appt.

Jellybabie3 · 02/05/2017 08:37

For me i have my 20 week scan next week but am not due to see MW until June which has been booked in and added to my noted. Next appointment is 25 weeks with GP to have bloods and get matb form.

kizzle · 02/05/2017 10:57

PirateQueenie I think some areas are different when it comes to appointments.
I'm Shropshire & after that 20 week scan, in my notes it says 24, 28, 31, 34, 36, 38 and then 40. X

My midwife is on holiday so I can't see her until nearly 27 weeks :/ I get that everyone needs a break but I wouldn't have cared about seeing someone else as I've only met her once. Tbh I would have felt better seeing her at 20 or 18 weeks or something but I guess they are pretty streched ATM.

Had to phone up and book a appointment which was annoying as I could have just sat around waiting for a letter.

Twenty should read 16

Just book all of the appointments you need when you next see the midwife. That way you both know it's sorted. Some appointments will be more important than others so make sure you book them x

kizzle · 03/05/2017 20:31

Yeah you usually have to phone up and book an appointment. Sometimes weeks in advance as they're so busy.
As I said before, I like to get my next one booked as soon as I've had an appointment, keeps me organised ha.

Firstimefreaked · 03/05/2017 22:00

Turns out I missed my 16 week one :/

I'll try and book all my appointments in advance, thankies x

Sounds like the midwife should have been a bit clearer about how the appointment system works where you are! Not really fair to expect patients to just know what they're meant to do.

Also a bit rubbish that you have to wait for your midwife to get back from holiday. When my midwife was on holiday, I had midwife appointments booked as normal, they just had a random midwife in covering for normal midwife.

Firstimefreaked · 04/05/2017 02:46

Tbh might have been a bit of an information over haul with my dyslexia and Irene syndrome, although my partner doesn't remember it being mentioned...oh it was so long ago now too...would haven easier to book an appointment then I don't quite understand why they didn't say too.

Probably funding cuts I guess or everyone was booked up...I probably contacted them a bit late, it's my first time round left to my own devices I am a bit blunderous.
