I am 14 weeks pregnant, I bought my hubby a pregnancy book and I'd like something to read myself. I will be buying the hypnobirthing book as I know a few people it has helped but any other recommendations from anyone?

Funny, informative or anything in between.

Thanks in advance xxx

Two recommendations- firstly the Mumsnet book- its great! Also for lightheartedness & full honestly- the Unmumsy diaries - they made me feel so much better! X

I really enjoyed Holly Willoughby; truly happy baby. Good mix of advice, humour and education.

Do you want something about pregnancy in general, birth or becoming a parent?

I've read The Bump Class (Mariana Fogle and Chiara Hunt) and How to Grow a Baby and Push It Out (Clemmie Hooper) both give interesting medical expert insights (as the authors are a doctor and a midwife as well as mothers) into some of the aspects and coupled with practical advice. I've also just finished the Positive Birth Book (Milli Hill) which is empowering and gives you an insight into what you can do to get the birth experience you want.
My hypnobirthing book was much more technical in terms of understanding labour and techniques to help in labour.

Rated Hypnobirthing book by Katherine Graves, listened to relaxation every night in pregnancy & it absolutely helped me in my labour.

I adore Holly Willoughby but thought the book was crap; she refers to her own children all of the time (poss not surprising) & it comes across v amateur-ish...

Thanks so much ladies, some good ideas to take a look at. I'm thinking more pregnancy at the moment but will definitely be looking for some parenting ones in the future.

Really appreciate your recommendations xx

Whilst I found reading pregnancy books (including hypnobirthing as the breathing really helped in Labour) interesting and useful, I regret not spending enough time reading up on what to do when baby arrives! I would highly recommended Your Baby Skin to Skin by Rachel Fitz-Deshorger - it is brilliant as it explains your baby's behaviour and outlines how you can best respond. It will demystify things and reassure you during those challenging (but amazing!) first few weeks and months.

Congratulations btw!

Thanks Moomin37 I will definitely look at that one, it sounds amazing. Xxx

Reading 'The Happy Birth Book' at the moment and it's great. So insightful about all sorts of things through pregnancy and childbirth.
