Maternity wear rent

I asked this in a different forum as well but got no replies...This is my 2nd pregnancy and I dont want to spend too much on maternity wear. At the same time I dont want to by cheap not really fitting things either (How does H&M do it that on photos their maternity line doesnt look bad at all but in real...). And I work in the office and dont want to manage with just 2-3 dresses through the whole pregnancy. So I know in USA there is a popular service- you pay monthly and can rent clothes (leTote, Rent the runway etc) and I started looking for similar service for maternity wear in UK. I found this one www.beeyondexpectations.co.uk but their clothes look kind of cheap and selection is very small. The other one that I found is www.facebook.com/9plus1uk and they will stock the brands id like to wear (but cant really afford to buy) but they are not launching before early this summer (sent them an email). Im only around 20 weeks pregnant then so it should be ok, but...Is there any other? (i surely cant be the only on who needs this service)

Good luck with your venture OP.

Oh I see what everyone means now! She's plugging her own weird rental concept .. to be fair I did rent a formal pregnancy gown when I was pregnant but every day stuff ?!? Naaah

I just asked if anyone knew any other companies that do the rental as neither of those 2 was for me at the moment. Oh well if anyone ever is looking for maternity wear rental to wear in the office then I just discovered that some of the clothes rentals do have small line for maternity wear as well and although mainly for occasional wear- some of the dresses are totally suitable for office as well. (I wont even put the link here because if i do i must be working for that company :S)
I dont think it makes me strange that I dont want to manage through the pregnancy with just few outfits but at the same time I dont want to buy 10-15 maternity dresses/skirts&tops (i hardly ever wear pants even when not pregnant) and pay most likely over 1-1,5K for those and then having to deal with re-selling etc. I did it with my last pregnancy - got only few maternity items and I felt not so good most of the pregnancy because i had given up something i liked- dressing nice plus the bag with those clothes was in my wardrobe for 18 months before i managed to sell some of those for so little money that i dont think it was even covering the cost of energy and time for washing and ironing them (and some I just gave away). For some people renting might be strange and something they would never do- thats fine, i dont call it strange or weird. Just like just because someone comments that H&M leggings are good- I dont start thinking that "oh, she must be working for H&M" (because it actually might help someone- what is what i was thinking when i put those links- they are no use for me really, but if someone else is looking for rental maybe for them they are)

Asos and new look have a decent maternity range, they're not overly priced either and are more "on trend" than a lot of maternity ranges I've seen that seem to be primarily spots and stripes !! I have a couple of jersey dresses and pairs of jeans from H&M too again, all reasonably priced.

How on earth would 10-15 items end up costing £1-1.5k to buy?? Where are you planning on shopping OP? Shock

rachelhky · 31/05/2019 09:03

I spent some time looking too.... and 2 years later - www.bundlenjoy.com

aliensprig · 31/05/2019 09:08

Just buy off ebay op. Don't be such a snob.

Teddybear45 · 31/05/2019 09:16

What is your usually style? Seraphine and Asos is good if you need something a bit more formal — you can just wear your usual jacket on top (just don’t button it).

Teddybear45 · 31/05/2019 09:17

I agree though it’s so silly when you ask about workwear and people put down H&M leggings. Lol not everyone works in a setting where leggings are appropriate for work!!

Teddybear45 · 31/05/2019 09:20

Also I find if you are under a size 12-14, upsizing Monsoon and Hobbs works in some styles as their waist sizes can be very big.

preggers88 · 01/06/2019 07:09

All my clothes are from ASOS!

SundayMorningSun · 01/06/2019 07:38

ASOS, JoJo and Seraphine for me too. Second hand in some cases (from a friend or from eBay).

If you are on the slimmer side, I've also found that jersey dresses and nice tops from Fatface, White Stuff and Monsoon are stretchy and generous to fit me still - the first two have relatively good ethical credentials. If you happen to be anywhere near Havant, Fatface have a charity shop selling off their end-of-line stuff too.

Not sure how you could spend £1k+ but to each their own!

Sessy19 · 01/06/2019 07:50

I checked out pp suggestion for a entail company and it seems like a reasonable idea. It’s not something I would use but I wear a uniform to work! 😂
I don’t see the difference per ce in second hand/charity shopping vs renting clothes others have worn anyway🤣 but each to their own...

Occasion wear maybe...

Maddis136 · 01/06/2019 08:04

Until I was 7 months I could just size up in a lot of brands and be clever with which styles I chose so you don’t need to invest much in maternity wear. Those items were also great post natal when I was all lumpy and bumpy.

Rental isn’t a big business in the UK. Most people I know aren’t that fussed about only having 4-5 work outfits for such a small amount of time (months 4-9). Rent the runway and the like did try for a UK market but it just isn’t that popular as the demand for “labels” isn’t as high here as other countries.

I disagree... although rental isn't a big business in the UK, it should be and it's a matter of time.

Think about the damage we are causing the environment by buying fast fashion clothing that are unsustainable. The damage we will cause the earth to our children and grandchildren to come is unimaginable.

I hope that UK will catch on to the rental market just like US and Canada. Therefore it is so good to see a new rental company, Bundle 'n Joy collection in the UK! We should all definitely support the cause! Saves wardrobe space too!

Maddis136 · 03/06/2019 17:23

Yes there is an environmental impact but to be honest were I am (countryside sussex) the trend is more towards 'make do and mend' and buying quality that lasts than towards fast fashion.

My maternity wardrobe is 90% second hand or hand me downs and I'll be passing it all on too. I wouldn't fancy the price of renting or the stress of it getting ruined and having to buy it. That's just my opinion though.

amygdala7 · 03/06/2019 18:19

Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to get hand me downs. I certainly didn't. Style, size and all...

I agree the stress of getting it ruined. But in reality, whether your clothings or others, you'll probably not going to massively ruin it?

Still wish that Bundle 'n Joy was around when I was pregnant.. my two cents worth!
