Hi all,

My lovely DS had a nasty tummy bug which he's only recovering from now (started Tues night), bless him, and I now I have caught it, starting being sick 0700 this morning... Not been able to keep any fluids let alone food down and feel awful. Hoping it will get better by morning, but just wondered if anyone has any tips? I'm 20 weeks pregnant and feel completely wiped by this.

Thank you for reading xxxx

Poor you. My only advice would be to try lemonade. It always works for me when sicky. Just sip at it. Hope you feel better soon

oh yuk, I had the same. tried eating ginger (crystallised, quite disgusting) flat lemonade, and I think you can take those re-hydrating sachets.
Important thing is to try keep your fluids up. Nibble on dry toast when you are up to it. Poor you!

Hi there
I had a really bad tummy bug when I was 17 weeks. Docs said as long as you're taking fluids then things should be fine, even diluting juice is good as it has potassium etc in it. Therefore it's important to try and keep some fluid down. Hope you feel better soon.

Think I had the same as you a few weeks ago at about 15 weeks, I'm 18 weeks now. Caught it off DS who had it for one night and was right as rain in the morning - apparantly being pregnant does make you more succeptable to bugs. I was sick for 3 days and had horrible urgent squits for about 4 days after that (sorry if thats tmi). Very, very unpleasant - but luckily seemed able to keep fluids down for a few hours at a time so I don't think I got dehydrated. Hope it doesn't last as long for you and make sure you get lots of help so you can take yourself to bed over the weekend!

It should be ok to eat - look for some Arrowroot biscuits. When i had food poisoning, they're the only things i could keep down. Arrowroot is v.good for stomach upsets.

i had something awful at 7/8 months with ds2.
god, i was dying.
mw told me starve for a few hours then sip lucozade as i felt dizzy.
cream crackers stayed down.

Thank you everyone

Luckily last night the vomiting stopped and I was finally able to keep fluids down- phew. Feel a bit wrecked now but at least my energy is returning!

Thing is now I think I might have a bladder infection Passsing v small amounts of urine, stings occasionally but not all the time, but needing to go very often. Debating whether to call out of hours docs as the pharmacist said they couldn't give me anything as I'm pregnant & they wouldn't want to risk it. Trying to drink lots of cranberry juice! Should I bother the docs? Hoping it will just get better!!

You poor thing madmum, really feel for you. I've had cystitis loads of times, sometimes cranberry juice helps other times you just KNOW it's not going to do it. If you feel it's pretty bad don't suffer all weekend, phone the out of hours.

Good luck and hope you're feeling better soon.

Hey there, I had this a little while back when only about 13/14 weeks pg. Spoke to the midwife at the time and she just said to rest, take diorlyte(sp), loads of water and gradually build up eating. Your baby is protected from the bug as your placenta won't let it filter through so it WILL NOT harm the baby, just weakens the mother.
BTW this bug leaves you contagious for 48 hours after you've finished being sick so if possible, please stay home until that time frame's passed.
Really hope you feel loads better soon though
