hi honey, my husband and i have been listening to our baby since i was 11 weeks pregnant, am now 19. the best thing to make sure you are listenning to the baby and not your own arteria, is to keep your hand on your own pulse (i use the jugular for that). when you find the baby's heart, it will be so much faster, just wont match your own.

its being great fun for us to hear the baby! and has given us piece of mind too. good luck with yours!

It does sound so different. Personally I don't think you can mistake baby when you find it. It is very much faster than your own and is not a swoshing sound, it has a distinct quick galopping rhythum to it.

I agree though it can be difficult to find and take ages sometimes. The have a drink, jump about try a little while later advice if you don't find it first time is excellent.

I have used a handheld anawiz doppler for 2 of my pregnancys, both times I was able to listen to HB from about 11/12 weeks. Not always first time and sometimes it took up to 10 minutes to find baby in the early weeks. Sweaty palms start happening then.

I don't think these things are any good. They only make you worry when you can't hear anything, which you can't most times because they are no way as good as the ones the Midwife's use .
I got one and I never used it again after it nearly panicked me to the nearest hospital. I am now 38wks and as long as I feel him kicking I know he's fine doing his own thing in there.
I would wait for your 20wk scan its really rewarding and will be worth it. PLus little baby kicks and all the rest will happen for you soon.
If you are really worried ask your MW if she can do it for you, I'm not sure if you even can at 16wks.

Honey, I had 1 previous mc, so i told my GP i was worried so he sent me along for an immediate scan just to ease my mind.
Turned out I was 8 weeks and it was all fine.
Don't be afraid to push for some additional attention.
