maybe it's just reading the other thread in active convo's, or maybe it's the annoying, stuck up "alpha" mum at toddler group who made a really horrible comment about our choice of names for all 3 DS's (yes even the 2 we know for a fact are DS's as they're already here).

DS1 is Tafara Yehudi
DS2 is Tongai Scott
and DS3 (presuming the sonographer got it right LOL) will be Takunda Myles

Bearing in mind all 3 first names are names from DH's mother tongue with lovely meanings that we both like (and also they're not 'common' English names whcih I don't like ) as they really that wierd????

they are unusual names, but lovely ones.
agree with all other posters to ignore this mum. would be v boring indeed if all kids names came from a pool of 20 or so ( which a lot do actually!)

WanderingTrolley · 05/03/2007 17:08

Lovely names, not weird.

Assuming you're in the UK, giving your boys names from Zimbabwe is an important way of connecting with their heritage. Wish I'd had a name that connects with mine.

Agree "Tafara, Tongai, and Phil" sounds daft!

Alha mum very much needs to keep her snout out and her trap zipped!

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 05/03/2007 17:11

Didn't realise that you were a name changer fa - thought you'd been missing a long while!

Ignore the doubters.

WestCountryLass · 05/03/2007 21:42

Deffo agree that as they reflect your DHs heritage they are not weird at all!

jdd0709 · 06/03/2007 11:14

I really like those names - they walk the line between unusual and weird very well - they are lovely. that women is probably just jealous. I agree that you can't give ds3 a more conventional/english name now as he would feel like he wasn't special like the older two I think. I think you are lucky to have two heritages/traditions to choose from - gives you so many more options. I really like unusual names for boys but as we are both from longtime traditional British famillies anything out of the ordinary causes outrage (not that I care!)

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 06/03/2007 11:17

I think they're fab names Qo-- sorry Fannie

Snowi · 06/03/2007 14:07

They're all lovely names. Personally DH & I have refrained from telling anybody the name we have chosen for DS due in May, to avoid people's tactless comments which might put us off the name. Maybe you should do the same, especially if it's not family...although too late as you've already shared it with us mumsnetters

Mrsjaffabiffa · 06/03/2007 14:40

I think they are nice too. Unusual yes!! but not weird.

In fact I don't think I've ever seen such a positive name thread on MN, sounds like they are all truly liked names.

NutterlyUts · 06/03/2007 14:41

I love all the names. I much prefer names that are unusual to common names, and the fact they tie in so nicely to the boy's heritage is just fab imo.

SoupDragon · 06/03/2007 15:07

Of course they're wierd to English ears, and by wierd I mean strange sounding, but they're names appropriate to their "heritage" for want of a better word. I would expect (or rather not be surprised) children of non-british ancestry to have unusual (to me) names. It doesn't mean they're not lovely names - often they're much nicer than some of the Bog Standard British ones about.

thanks everyone - feeling more rational today.....was rather hormonal yesterday (can't imagine why being 27 weeks pg and all that )
