Sorry, more baby name dilemmas.... how would you pronounce this?

Hi. We're expecting baby No2 and we like the name Borggia for a girl...I took it from an old student of mine whose family originated from Sri Lanka, but she was born in France. I don't know if it's a typical Tamil name, or short for a longer name (Sri Lankan names are notoriously long). Tried to search on the net, but couldn't find it as a first name. Obviously, I know how she pronounced it, but would be interested to know if you would pronounce it the same. Wouldn't want to name our baby something that was totally weird and unpronounceable.

I'd go with the alternative spelling too, and basically make your own name. I wouldn't really use a name I had no idea of the meaning of. It could be tamil, and it might be christian, hindu or muslim in origin, and I wouldn't personally want to accidently use a name with a meaning I didn't believe it.
The nearest I can think of is Bhaggie (Bhur - jii - uh).

nothing can be as bad as accidently using an std as a name. was at a hen weekend this weekend and one girl is a teacher - she has a Khlamydia in her class. K instead of C, but still - you've got to wonder why they didnt think slightly longer about where they might have heard that word before.

A truce would suit me lemmi. Umbridge has subsided. I think that we were all learning about the Jacobite rebellions and the Highland Clearances while you English learning about the Borgias or whatever they called themselves. FWIW I asked dh (who's English and very interested in history) and he agreed with you that it shows apalling ignorance not to have heard of them. And yet .... bovvered?

It was the Sky News comment which got under my skin ever so slightly.

Lol.. Good, I'm glad that we can put away the boxing gloves. At least you have loyalty towards the BBC, I just hope they give you a raise for your allegience!! You're right, you have no need to be bovvered about not having heard of the Borgias pope and his lovely family. Just in case you were wondering, I'm not English (or Catholic for that matter) but I do love history and politics so altho I don't think I'm a snob I guess I can be accused of being a nerd! Anyway, I'm happy for the truce and no hard feelings
