I've been on/off bleeding for a week. When it's peaking it's like this but more red and with heavy watery bloody flow that stops as suddenly as it starts. The EPU didnt seem bothered when it started. I've had pain whenever I bleed etc. They scanned me but baby's ok and placenta was high. I'm going nuts with this Angry

Let us know how you get on, OP?

jamont0ast · 06/03/2017 17:08

If I was you, I would turn up and insist on being scanned. I would point blank refuse to leave.

Whatever the cause, whether it's sinister or not, it's horrible of them to leave a pregnant woman worries when a scan might get to the bottom of it and provide reassurance or warning of what may happen.

Exactly Jamon I just want to know how best to prepare myself. Whether it be for a late term miscarriage or a rocky pregnancy!

I had that lots with dc1 and various bleeds throughout (he's a healthy 6yo now)

I'd still say go, for peace of mind at least!

NoCapes · 06/03/2017 17:20

I bled on and off from about 9 weeks till 17 in my third pregnancy, sometimes it was brown sometimes bright red and other times there were big clots in it
It was so stressful and I was on pins the entire pregnancy
One day it just stopped and everything was fine in the end, like Dixie I never got an explanation for it
I was diagnosed with polyps a few months after he was born though, whether that was the reason or not we'll never know

Hope everything's ok Flowers

It is Thanks I know it's likely just going to settle down eventually or end in a miscarriage but that doesn't make this limbo period easier when it's your own baby and your own body. I wish the language and treatment around it reflected as much Grin

So tough Millenium. I bled throughout with my first DC, I even had quite a big bleed at 37 weeks. They never found out why but all was fine. I also bled a lot in early pregnancy with DC2. Again no reason but all was fine. Finally with DC3 I only had one very slight bleed. I really hope that you get some reassurance. It is really tough x

Blackberrybakewell · 07/03/2017 05:26

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I had a bleed at 16 weeks (after MMC first pregnancy so thought history was repeating itself). It was a weekend and ultrasound dpt was shut so I was given a quick bedside scan by a very busy and hassled consultant as he was the only one who could use the equipment, he saw the heartbeat was fine, said it was implantation bleeding and that was that.

Except I got home and, although reassured by the heartbeat, couldn't get my head around why he thought it was implantation bleeding all of a sudden at 16 weeks. I stressed myself out for a few more days (still bleeding but slowing down and going darker brown - indicating older blood) before deciding to go for a private scan (£60 at NHS hospital) where a calm and lovely sonographer took the time to have a really good look around to see what was happening. Turns out the bleed was on my cervix, far away from baby and placenta so nothing to worry about. I think she said the cervix is so full of blood and tender during pregnancy that it is susceptible to damage which can cause bleeding. The bleeding stopped after a week or so, I've had no more and I'm now 38+3.

Of course bleeds can be down to many different things, the cause some can be found with a scan, the cause of others are never found and sadly sometimes it can indicate the start of a miscarriage. I really hope that you can get a scan so you can find out more about what's going on, I've been in the limbo of not knowing and it's so hard xx

MilleniumTalcum · 07/03/2017 07:24

Blackberrybakewell and raaaaaah Thank you so much. That's really helped me feel more positive Thanks

We have a private gender scan today and I'm going to be cheeky and ask if they will have a look around. It can't hurt to ask!

I'd go (but am also rhesus negative so need a shot of anti-D for any bleeding, so maybe that makes me quicker to go in?)

Good luck.

purpleviolet1 · 08/03/2017 08:26

Hi op hope the scan went well yesterday. I had spotting from 9-14/15 weeks with a red bleed at 12 weeks. I was convinced it was bad news after 2mcs.

They mentioned a haematoma at around 9 weeks and then at a private scan at18 weeks , the sonographer sad the placenta was covering the cervix a little so it could've been coming from there too. By 20 week scan it had moved up.

Hope there is a valid explanation for you as it's so stressful xx

MilleniumTalcum · 08/03/2017 10:08

Thanks. I'm having a boy.

I'm still bleeding. Sometimes spotting. Last night had more brown heavier bleeding. She suggested a subchorionic hematoma but couldn't see anything too obvious (not her job to look properly as she's just a babybond scan technician etc).

Congratulations op!

Glad to know things are still ok despite the bleeding. I assume you're due another NHS scan soon and hope they can reassure you more then.
