Are internal ultrasounds dangerous?

I've been booked in for my 3rd ultrasound due to bad cramping at 9weeks and 4 days, I'm just wondering if internal scans can damage the baby atall or cause miscarriage? As if they do atall I won't go for the scan! Anything appreciated x

Why on earth do you think they would do internal scans if they were in any way dangerous? Of course they are ok.

I wouldn't think so, or else they wouldn't do them! I went for an internal and there was no mention of any risks.

They wouldn't do them if they were.

Please don't worry, I've had more internal scans than I've had hot dinners over the years!
To be honest, they probably won't need to do an internal at 9weeks 4days but even if they do, they really are perfectly safe and not painful in the slightest. Best of luck to you.

Well, apparently there are some scientists who are against scans in general and are trying to prove ultrasounds are dangerous. Unfortunately their tests on mice, for example, involve 30-minute ultrasounds, which obviously doesn't happen to a pregnant woman, especially not with a device strapped to the same spot continuously.

Research like this has been going on since the 1970s and ultrasounds are being blamed for all kinds of stuff like autism and things, by people who want to go back to the pre-ultrasound era. Frankly I think there will probably be more straightforward explanations for autism than ultrasound.

I had to have internal scans weekly from 21 weeks up until 28 weeks then fortnightly until 34 weeks, no problems for me.
