My GP said at least a year from when you give birth. What happens if you get pregnant befre then? Scary images of stomach bursting open keep coming into my head

So you got pregnant when 1st one was 3 months? Sorry, am probably stating the very, very obvious - any discomfort around the scar - did you have to have another c-section - if you dont mind me asking of course.

Hi NappyChange - I don't know why they advise waiting a year. I don't think you'll explode or anything, I think it's just to give your body time to recover after a major operation. This thread is quite old but discusses various gaps. I've been stalking cesarean/vbac threads trying to find out if anyone in 2nd pregnancy with prior cesarean has a painful scar!

Helpful, thanks. Shame that there is so much different advice.

Hiya,

I was told to wait ideally 2 years between births/deliveries... But I know most recommend at least 1 year minimum to allow your body to heal and everything to knit back together properly.

I had an emergency c-section with DS (due to pre-eclampsia) and for some reason the scar didn't heal well... Ended up being referred to a dermatologist 10 months later and had to have steroid injections into the scar to stop it being so sore & sensitive. This did the trick, plus some cream they prescribed for scar reduction (v expensive one that is available in chemits..dermatix?! so bad remembering names!). I'm pregnant again but LO isn't due until July, which will be 2yrs 3months after c-section.

I have been advised I can try for VBAC, but they will always string you up to lots of monitors in case of uterine scar rupture (tearing of the womb where they went in last time) which does occasionally happen & is v serious. They reckon women who have had a c-section have a 50% chance of having a vaginal delivery subsequently.

Not sure any of that helps but that's all I know!

Mine closer together than that too -I was pg again after 5 months (not QUITE the plan, but there you go). I was also told you should wait 1-2 years, but it didn't cause me any problems during the 2nd pg - scar was fine (even though it had taken a while to sort itself out after pg1) - the bump sort of sat above the scar, iyswim, so wasn't like it was being stretched or anything. I think the potential problem with the scar is more of an internal thing, during labour. I tried for VBAC but it didn't work out and ended up with another CS. Problem I had was being strapped up to monitors during labour and therefore immobile. I think probably I should have stamped my feet a bit more, but it's easier said than done in the face of the gathered medical bods. Docs told me I had 70% chance of vbac. Anyway, others may know more about this than me - lulumama, maybe?

no discomfort but 2nd baby kept trying to come early-ended up holding on till 37weeks.wasnt really given choice whether csection or not but 1st baby at 5lb14 was 'too' big!i then went on to have a 3rd csection and can honestly say i heeled better each time.

I had an emergency cs with ds1 and was told to wait a year before ttc. Was quite ill after the cs with anemia and took ages to feel normal again. Was pregnant again by the time ds1 was 14m, but mc'd at 12 wks (doubt it had anything to do with cs, but I convinced myself I hadn't left it long enough). DS2 born when DS1 was 2yrs 4m - I was determined to go for VBAC and felt so elated when I succeeded. Wasn't strapped up to many monitors at all, and was able to walk around the room without hindrance.
