I've just turned 36 (in Dec) and found out one 14/02 that I am pregnant with DC2!
Very happy but absolutely petrified as my DS will be 5 when this little one arrives (approx 23/10). I am 6 weeks pregnant so very early days! I just keep thinking something horrible is going to happen! I don't have many symptoms apart from occasional light headedness and obviously quite tired. I never had sickness with my DS either. Any other ladies out there? Would love to have an ongoing thread to share things and support each other. Please come and talk to me!

Hi ladies
I've just booked my dating scan. I decided against the NT scan as I would not terminate and therefore did not see the point in stressing myself out further. I know by the 20 week scan if there is anything major I will be told. Just hoping everything is ok for when I actually fill go for the scan which is Monday 3rd April.

I had no screening at all as it would have made no difference to us. In fact my doc had said due to my age the blood test would have come back at the highest risk anyway so there was no point in stressing myself out of we were not going to do anything anyway.
My 20 week scan was really stressful as I kept thinking they would pick up on something but all was good and the pregnancy is progressing well. I thought I'd worry about the 'what if?' But I've really suprised myself and not had many of these moments. I still think we did the right thing in not being screened

mistermagpie · 01/03/2017 13:27

I had the screening. I wouldn't terminate anyway (not that I'd judge anyone who makes a different choice) but I wanted to be prepared both mentally and practically.

mycatloveslego · 01/03/2017 13:42

I agree with mister. We wouldn't terminate either, but forewarned is forewarned so they say. A close friend of DH's opted out of screening with their first. He was born with Down's plus several other serious health problems. DH's friend couldn't cope initially and had a breakdown. After talking to them we decided to do the screening, but it's all down to personal preference and you have to do what's right for your family.

I'm 38 and expecting DC2 in the summer - DC1 is one and a half. I don't think of myself as an 'older' mother, although I have to wonder if I would be half as knackered if I was 28 rather than 38!

Good luck with your pregnancy.

GreedyDuck · 01/03/2017 14:56

I had the Harmony test when I had DD, totally worth it for the peace of mind. Although my combined screening results were pretty good (1:1700), considering my age, a friend had recently had a baby who was diagnosed with DS at birth - despite a similar low risk result. The shock was really dreadful for her, and I would want to be forewarned (also, in the case of Patau or Edwards syndromes we definitely would terminate).

Thanks for your replied ladies - good to see both points of view!

I'll join in! I'm 38 and 13 weeks with DC2 - my DS is 15 months. Had my scan yesterday and all looked well, nuchal measurement was exactly the same as my son and I was measuring a week ahead - I think it will be another big baby! My son was 9lb. I'm dreading the results of the combined test and will have the harmony if they are high risk - much more to consider being older as the responsibility will eventually fall upon my son and I'm not sure how fair that is so will have a lot of thinking to do if things aren't as we hope. I also had a MMC in September so that is weighing heavily on my mind! I was told I'd get a phone call within 2 days if things were high risk and nothing today so hoping the phone doesn't ring tomorrow! Ooh and I'm also a teacher!

RememberToSmile1980 · 01/03/2017 21:58

Hi Katurah
I'm a teacher too! Counting down to my scan now. Will get bloods for the downs risk later as midwife did tell me about that when I called. I'm so tired at the moment and trying to keep it a secret at school for as long as possible!

I'm 37 and baby 2 is due 2 days after baby 1's second birthday ! I'll have a busy summer! X

stuckinny · 04/03/2017 02:44

Hi,
I'll be 39 in May and found out today I'm pregnant with number 2 (1st for DP). My DS is 10 and I have no idea how he'll take the news. We're not planning on telling anyone until at least 12 weeks. I need to be sure that everything will be okay.

Sal1977 · 05/03/2017 00:16

I'm 39 and nearly 32weeks pg with number 2. My son is nearly 13 months. Gulp.

Definitely less stressed this time as I'm busy with the first baby still and also know what to expect his time.

Life clearly had a plan for us!

octonuddle · 05/03/2017 07:17

Hello DC2 on the way here - 19 weeks along and I'm careering towards the big Four Ohh in a few weeks time. Was 38 when I had DC1 so will have a 2 year gap between them.

This pregnancy has been much tougher - I hardly noticed I was pregnant with DC1 but from about 4 weeks to 16 I was nauseous and vomiting every day. Feeling better now but still much more tired - I suppose because I now have a very active toddler and work full time in a stressful job. I'm going off on mat leave super early (30 weeks!) so can't wait!

Slightly nervous about 3rd trimester as I had really bad OC in pregnancy 1 and had to get induced early. I was orange and itching like crazy - not a great look :) Have been told I have a 90% chance of it recurring so just waiting for the itch to begin.

chocoraisin · 05/03/2017 09:43

Can I lurk? Just found out I'm pg with DC3, I'll turn 35 this summer when I'm about 5 months gone. Would be nice to follow this thread :)

flymo79 · 05/03/2017 10:44

Thought I joined this thread but must've just been lurking! I'm 38 in June and 13 wks pg with dc2. Dd will be 3 in August. Have been sicky and knackered and dreading pelvic pain and foot pain which I had with dd. She was also over 9lb so a bit of an eye-waterer! Just considering options on delivery as I'm abroad

onlymrsmac · 05/03/2017 18:29

Dc2 due in August, I'll be 35 in May. Us old birds seem to be preggers a lot! Hope everyone is doing well Smile

Lalalax3 · 05/03/2017 18:58

Me! Hiya, I'm 35 and pg with number 2. Due on Oct 27th.

chocoraisin · 08/03/2017 17:50

Is anyone finding it rough going this time compared to earlier pregnancies? I'm sicker, more tired and more emotional. Not sure if it's just age though? Was 27/29 the last two DC. Nearly 35 this time. Or am I just being a whingy mare?

Bananalanacake · 08/03/2017 18:48

I am 40 at the end of March and 30 weeks with my 2nd DD. My DD1 is 2.5 and at Kindergarten, I drop her off at 8AM and have to go back to bed - I am so tired all the time.

DuRezidal · 08/03/2017 19:16

I am turning 34 with my second, and I also have a 5 year old daughter. I have only just found out I am pregnant but I am concerned because I am that much older than I was last time.

witsender · 08/03/2017 19:18

36 and newly pg with #3 here!

Wibblewobble100 · 08/03/2017 20:39

Hi, I'm 36 and just found out I'm pregnant again. Have one DS who'll be 3 in June. Had an MC at 6 weeks in Aug, and an MMC in Dec. Keeping everything crossed for this one, but generally feel more positive for no real reason at all!
