Hi all,

I'm 19 weeks pregnant today and for the past couple of weeks I've been feeling tiny fluttery movements in my belly, just like people say the first movements feel like. They mainly came at night while resting, sometimes even occasionally in the afternoon if I was having a very deskbound day! Now, I KNOW that is very early for a first pregnancy, but definitely was feeling things...so would expect the feelings to be getting stronger, but instead over the past couple of days, they seem to have stopped! I've tried the cold drink and lie down trick, even prodded gently to try to get a reaction, and I haven't felt anything! I know it's still early days and a lot of people haven't felt anything by now, but surely it's a bit weird for movements to stop and start? Did anyone else experience this? Thinking of seeing the GP this avo but don't know if that's just uber paranoid...any reassurance greatly appreciated! xxx

I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about, the baby may have moved position, or it might not have been movements you felt at all. But if you are worried, there is absolutely no harm in going and getting it checked out, for your peace of mind.

Hi, the baby might have been closer to the womb over the last week and now may have moved to another place where it doesn't touch the walls of the womb as much or it could just be totally comfortable stayign put. I wouldn't worry too much but its always good to check with your gp or the midwife if you are worried. I would give it a hefty prod (this won't hurt them) and always found eating a large amount of chocolate gave my bump a sugar rush that got it bouncing. HOpe all is ok and let me know how you get on.

Lots and lots of us on our antenatal thread had this, including me. I started feeling flutterings at about 17 weeks and then went for days on end feeling nothing at all. The midwife reassured me that it's entirely normal and the baby's small enough to hide away behind your pubic bone so you can't feel them sometimes- and depending on where your placenta is you may only feel them if they wriggle over to a certain side.

This is my first baby too and I can guarantee every niggle and question you have, I've been there and done it.

I'm sure everything is absolutely fine but if you need reassurance of course ask your midwife/GP.

Thank you ladies, this is all VERY reassuring. Interesting what you say Muminfife about the baby moving less around now/the 20 week mark - any idea why that is? xxx

Had exactly the same thing happen this time around 20 weeks, little flutters then nothing for a couple weeks. Worried me sick, but was absolutely fine (I was travelling so just had to wait it out). Agree you should go see your midwife for your own peace of mind. You're allowed to be paranoid - they're used to it!

I've had exctly the same thing. Started to feel her (my first) at 18-19 wks, was feeling her everyday for a week or so and then suddnely nothing at around 20 weeks for days. Was getting worried esp as my cousin recently lost hers at about this stage. I had my 21 wk scan on Wed and she was perfectly fine and moving all over the place - I just couldn't feel those movements because I guess she was in a different part of the womb.

As others say, see your midwife if your worried but I don't think it's unusual.

kittylette · 02/03/2007 11:27

i felt my first at 17 weeks and my 2nd at 14 weeks

Sounds to me like you're feeling bubba wriggle. I felt my first move at 13 weeks, no-one believed me but I swear its true. Also its not unusual for bubba to find a comfy position and just stay there, specially when they're still pretty small. try not to worry but if you are jsut pop in and get your mw to have a listen for the heartbeat, should be easy at 19 weeks
