Mears/lulumama/anyone else who might know ... anterior placenta ...

I was reading a thread the other day about anterior placenta and it got me thinking about this db. I am 19+5wks pg and starting to feel regular kicks and movements - but none on the left hand side at all - all on the right, top and bottom of my bump. I had an anterior placenta with ds (on the left) and the sensation is very much the same.

I have also noticed that I cannot get comfy on my left hand side when sleeping at night - I start off on my right and often wake up during the night on my back (oops) - if I have got an anterior placenta then would this be part of the reason I can't get comfy on that side?

Also - I am not due to have any more scans (only get a 13 week one here, which is fine by me) - but is there any reason why it might be a good idea to get this checked? Might my midwife be able to tell? (I only found out about the position of my placenta with ds when I had a late growth scan, so kind of by accident).

Any thoughts anyone??

Anyone with anterior placenta experience?

I was told that I have an anterior placenta at my 20 week scan. In itself it is no problem, as long as it is not low down- same as with posterior placenta really. As you are finding, it does affect where you feel movements and can make lying on the side that it is on slightly uncomfortable, if it is more to one side than another.

The only thing that may be a consideration is a slightly higher possibility of a back to back labour as the baby likes to face the placenta. If this is the case then optimal foetal positioning can encourage the baby to move round to face the other way.

It shouldn't cause many problems and is extremely common.

Thanks SOH - what you said does make me more convinced that this one is anterior. Not worried by that - as I said ds's was anterior and he presented normally, though came out with his hand up by his head! But I will prob. mention it to my m/w when I see her next week.

It is just for interest really - I like to know everything

Bump - I'm interested too!

In fact, I asked a sim. question on the childbirth bit and Mears has answered and octopus too with a reassuring story about delivery her OP 10lb baby! I would do a link but I'm rubbish at that type of thing - sorry!

Oh I saw that one cupcakes - in fact that was the thread that sparked off my question! But since mine was about sleeping and feeling kicks rather than the actual birth, I thought it best to start a separate thread

Sorry Miaou - not quite with it. I found this time that I didn't start feeling many proper movements till about this wk (21 - 22). In my last pg. I felt them really early on all the time. I was getting a bit anxious by the anolmaly scan because i couldn't feel anything. i do seem to have an area where I don't feel anything. As for getting comfy at night - mission impossible! i have a fab pillow but hate sleeping on my side - my shoulder goes numb!

Think I had anterior placenta with ds2. Just made it difficult for MW to find the heartbeat! No other concerns, though.
