DRY PEELING SKIN ON FACE AT 30WKS - HELP!!

God my face is a mess since about 3 days ago, dry and peeling and i have exfoliated which has left it sore so can't even use moisturiser without intense burning (ran screaming to the bathroom this morning to wash off my usual gentle moisturiser!!).

Tried staying in yesterday with Sudocrem on my face but even that stung a bit but my face is seriosuly shredding flaky skin and i am due out tomorrow for lunch with friends and NEED make up - help!!

My beautician friend said it sounds hormonal. Great. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Do you have a lot of essential fatty acids in your diet? That may help. Nuts, seeds, oily fish (salmon, mackerel), avocados... or you can get supplements from your health food shop. EFAs nourish your skin from the inside. Good luck

can totally empathise, I'm 30 weeks too and my face has errupted twice exactly as your has, the first time I used e45 and even that burnt like hell, the second time I used nothing while it was really red and then just my usual moisturiser after a few days.

make up will aggrivate it loads though I imagine. I have had to stop using it the last couple of weeks and people keep asking me if I am ok? because I look so yuk!

it should just calm down on it's own but will be very very sensitive to anything that goes near it I should think.

Thanks for the responses, eat quite a balanced diet but it won't help to add more essential fats and i tried the E45 cream today with the same results!! Practically felt like i was on fire!

My face looks like i have been siting too close to a fire or something but the no make up/moisturiser thing may be tried tomorrow as i no longer need to go out - today i wore a baseball cap and hid but its getting tiresome, never realised how important your face skin is as you can't hide it like the rest of your body. Fingers and toes crossed it goes soon as i feel SO ugly!

Lolabelle, why do you say it won't help to eat more essential fats?

Lolabelle · 02/03/2007 12:25

Sorry meant it won't hurt!! God i just re-read that and you must ofthought i was charming!! Meant it won't hurt and forced some mackeral and salad last night scattered with Food Doctor mixed seeds on the salad!! Also put Aloe Vera Gel on my face whihc stung a slight bit but not much and my skin seems calmer but still FAR from attractive!

No experience of this Lolabelle I'm afraid, but have you tried Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream? I use it on my dry flaky cheeks and it works a treat.

I've been having this problem too and all the 'gentle' creams bring me out in a horrendous rash! The only thing that doesn't hurt me and helps (a little) is vaseline! I Smear it on thick before I go to bed and it does seem to ease the dryness and cracking a little bit.

Hi, I have also been experiencing sore angry red flaky dry skin on my face and neck during this pg (now 31 wks). The only things I have tried that soothe at all are both Dermalogica products. Barrier Repair is a clear gel that really soothes and forms a protective layer over the skin and the Skin Hydrating Booster which is a light serum that sinks it and helps with the dryness. They also do a Gentle Soothing Booster but I found the hydrating one better. Only drawback is they are quite pricey but have definately been worth it to stick my face back together!

Was going to suggest Aloe gel, then saw you already tried it and got some improvement. I am a firm believer in the stuff for everything from sore nipples to sunburn. Did you try doing a face pack with it and leaving it on for 15 minutes or so?
