This is my 2nd pregnancy and was very sick with DS1 but managed to work but this time round the exhaustion and constant nausea (only actually vomit a couple of times a day)is really getting to me. I have had 1 week off work and feel guilty but can't imagine going back feeling like this. Am hoping that like the first time the sickness will stop at 13 weeks & I will be able to get on with life..

I was completely incapacitated from 7-10 weeks. All I could do is sit on the sofa and eat every hour to prevent the overwhelming nausea. I took three weeks off work and didn't feel remotely guilty!
I'm now 18weeks and feel fab! But I do still remember how hideous it was in the very early days. Be kind to yourself and take as much time as you need.

Thanks guys, I've had other responses (see thread further down).. I'm so brain dead that I entered it twice. It's really reassuring receiving everyone's comments. It's easy to think that everyone else just sails through and that you are just being pathetic.

Hello Aniroonie
Poor you. I'm coming up to 26 weeks and on my 2nd pregnancy. This time round has been completely different to the last including an overwhelming feeling of nausea (first 4 weeks were absolutely dreadful!). When I spoke to the doctor he said he'd be more than happy to sign me off work for a week and said that nausea was, in fact, a very real problem (whether you're pregnant or not). I didn't take him up on the offer as I felt like I was wussing out. Things went from bad to worse (to the point where I couldn't even bring myself to eat or drink). I was so concerned about the development of our unborn child that I did, in fact, take time out. I also invested in 'travel bands' (you get them from Boots or any chemist - approx. £7) which surprisingly enough did work. They look like sweat bands - kind of 80s I know - but they might be worth a bash.

Oh yeah .. forgot to say that the nausea feeling did pass and it was roughly at 12 - 13 weeks. I hope your sickness soon passes

Aniroonie · 05/03/2007 11:33

Thanks Vander, I'm on my 2nd week off work but the sickness has reduced, as have the feelings of guilt, and I even ate some wholemeal toast today (massive achievement as my diet has consisted of porridge, white bread and lemonade!).

I am 38 wks now but in first trimester I was ill all day with nausea and dizzness so I totally understand. Nothing you can do about it but rest so don't feel guilty your head is not in control its your body doing its thing

Aniroonie I did nothing in the first 13/14 weeks of this pregnancy other than cry, sulk and throw up (but not every day: I just felt vile, day and night)

I'm doing a pHD, but NOTHING got done in those weeks (and not much since either ). If I had been in paid work I know I would have had to sign for long term sick leave.
