not pregnant, but trying curious as to when you did/would tell your work about being PG? Ive been reading company policies today and it has plans/expectations etc from quite early on it would seem...

I told my immediate line manager at about 13wks then the rest of our team at 20. The wider dept are none of the wiser (yet!) but I'm only 21wks and the office is freezing so big scarves & various layers are hiding my thickening middle.

Told my boss at around 8w in my first pregnancy as I was having lots of early pregnancy scans and wanted antenatal time off rather than burning my annual leave. Told the rest of my team after 12w as there was no hiding the bump through the middle of summer but had a second trimester loss.

Told HR and my boss at around 5w in this pregnancy because I would need a surgical procedure at 12-14w and wasn't sure if or when I'd return to work so they were able to ensure that I had cover.

I told mine quite early, pretty much as soon as I found out due to hazardous substances and manual handling so that things could be properly risk assessed.

I started my job at about 18 weeks pregnant but had been interviewed before conceiving. Told boss at about 12 weeks that time, she told immediate colleagues just before I started and then I went public after the 20 week scan. This time told boss and a couple of colleagues at about 12 weeks and then went public at about 22 weeks. Never went for a grand announcement but tummy gave me away and allowed others to confirm it.

No way I'd tell people at 8 weeks in a non hazardous workplace, but I don't get sick and can manage attendance at scans easy enough.

Testing no issue at all with telling work early, if I had a mc I would have needed time off. I did have the first scan before I told my boss but I was having almost fortnightly scans from 7w so it was much harder to hide. I live about an hour from work and the scans were at my local hospital. I wasn't expecting to have quite so many and some were booked fairly last minute so were not able to be scheduled at the start/end of a working day. Much easier to be open about the reasons for working from home on certain days etc.

I had to tell my boss at 7 weeks as there were some v physical parts of my job I couldn't do anymore. But I didn't have any conversations with HR after 12 weeks, probably more like 16.

Around 7/8 weeks both times.

I was off sick and would have wanted them to know in case something went wrong. My immediate office knew I was pregnant before extended family. But they were a supportive office so it made sense to tell them. And I didn't fit my trousers from 9 weeks so they were going to spot it anyway.

If your job is office based and you can hide any sickness well enough I would strongly advise holding off as long as possible but until after than scan. I've been discriminated against both times in terms of career moves unfortunately (not enough that it would be clear cut to fit but verbally told twice that I wasn't going to get certain opportunities because I was pregnant). It's crap but it's not unusual. BUT having a baby is worth it anyway. Just don't expect work to play fair - and be thrilled if they do!
