Why would you not?

I'd eat the raw egg as well.

Processed cheese is absolutely fine to eat.

The advice regarding eggs is also seemingly due to be updated, so I'd eat the pasta too:

If you are worried about diet in pregnancy, I recommend reading Expecting Better. I found it helpful to know why the guidelines are what they are.

Plus if it's carbonara the cheese will be cooked so would be ok anyway.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 09/02/2017 10:07

You can eat soft / raw eggs if they're lion brand because they're immunised against salmonella. The cheese is fine too because it's pasturised. It's only soft cheese that isn't pasturised that you shouldn't eat

NerrSnerr · 09/02/2017 10:07

Yes it's fine, there's no issue with processed cheese. You'd be fine with other soft cheeses too as long as they are cooked through.

Eggs in carbonara are lightly cooked, not raw. You'll be fine. You can even leave the heat on the pasta until the egg has fully solidified if you are worried.

Philadelphia is perfectly safe. Just to add -

  1. You can have runny eggs as long as they have the red mark on them i.e. supermarket ones.
  2. The egg in carbonara isn't raw - if it is you are making it wrong! It should be cooked through by the heat of the pasta, that's why you need to put it in straight after you drain the pasta. The liquidy texture should come from the bit of the cooking water that's left in the pasta, not from raw egg.

Sod the Philadelphia, get yourself a proper carbonara, its fine.

jld128 · 09/02/2017 20:36

haha thank you snifftest, the philadelphia one wasn't too bad actually but no where near as good as the real one!
